my forum is being destroyed, i so sick of the spam bullshit. Anyone have any mods or tips to keep the spam away. I already deleted all phpbb footprints on my site, but its not helping at all. I was reading about a mod that would stop new users from signing up if it took less than 5 seconds.

any tips i would appreciate it thanks

I found that changing the captcha to my own custom image took care of the problem for the most part.

I use several. One that removes the URL field from the registration process. A user list mod that allows quick deletion of many users at once. I never set the security to anything lower than "user". I use a mod that removes the ability of the user to view the memberslist - so they can't spam members. There are mods that will make it possible to post to certain forms only after they have been a member for many days.

I find most of them on the PHPBB site themselves or by searching for them with the type of mod I'm looking for and PHPBB Mod.

I still get the same morons posting over and over through proxy. Some people are just plain stupid.

It's also a good idea if your traffic is specific to one part of the world to consider banning the IP Blocks of known spam countries like South Korea, Ukraine, parts of South America, etc. It's sad that you have to block off entire regions because of a few "bad apples" but it is effective.

And yes Vbulletin is a good choice, and may actually be "cheaper" than the free PHPBB depending on how much you value your own time.

do you have any link to the mods? or can you tell me what theyre called?
Im still getting worked by the bots.

Manually edit the registration php file in phpBB so that a message is displayed when a website url is entered that says 'Website in profile cannot be entered during registration, but has to be edited once the account is created'. Plus, use this mod to stop those few that are getting through.

This works perfectly for me :)
