I came from sales when I got into AM.

Truth be told, I miss it sometimes...

I'm sure there are some damn good (ex) salespeople here in this forum.

I'll tell my favorite sales story after I hear from some others.

GlenGarry GlenRoss and Boiler Room anybody? God I love those movies.

I used to be a salesman at office max. I was a madman at selling those extended warranties. I actually had the national company record for four months which was cool cus the salesmen got a spiff for every one they sold. btw great sig although horribly photoshopped.

I was a recruiter for a temp agency. I had to convince people with college degrees to be collections agents.

I sold magazines door-to-door for a year. Physically "gettin' money" like that is no joke. Learned alot about self confidence from doing that.

door to door insurance salesman. Worst job I ever had. Best sales experience I ever had.

I miss the hunt sometimes too.... My favorite was opening a new market, professional hair care products on the East Coast. The perks were very... agreeable.

Ever Since my FIRST DATE!!! lol

I started out selling security systems to businesses door to door in my early 20's.

Then I moved up to selling Life Insurance on an old Debit Route where I either had to go in person to collect the "Weekly Premium" or the policy holder would mail in their payment book with the payment. I would then mark their book and then "I" had to pay the postage to mail it back to them.

I then sold both Kerby and Rainbow vacuum cleaners door to door.

Then I went back to insurance and sold Life & Health products.

I sold fans at Dan's Fan City for a while.

I sold driveway contracts in upscale neighborhoods.

I sold loans for Beneficial Financial.

I started a small Direct Response Marketing company.

Just before I got into Internet Marketing I had been selling on eBay for a few years.

I learned early on in my career that there is ALWAYS a sale made. Either you sell the prospect your goods or services, or the prospect sells you on the idea that they aren't buying.

I've been chased out of businesses, threatened, and even arrested as a possible prowler while out selling. (All in my first 6 months of outside sales!! lulz)

This Internet stuff is a breath of fresh air compared to those experiences.

By the way, for those who think that they aren't a salesperson by nature, keep in mind that you have been selling since you first tried to obtain something from someone or to convince them of something.

Selling is merely the manipulation of perspective.

DAMN!!!

Was a telemarketer in college, selling subscriptions to a local theater. Worst job ever. It made time stand still.

Thanks Malpais for bringing back that PAINFUL memory!! lol

I had actually forgotten that I spent one summer as a teenager in a phone room begging for donations to the "Fraternal Order of Police" and trying to sell tickets to their Annual Ball.

That was hands down the most BORING job ever.

I've spent a fair amount of time on the phone during my sales career, but I have always preferred face to face selling or direct response over telemarketing.

I have been writing about my experience in sales techniques on my blog oddly enough... everyone on wf is in some kind of sales.

ABC--ALWAYS BE CLOSING---worked with Rich Dad Poor Dad for 5 years in seminars and call centers was a great job that gave me my brass balls
