Anyone ever register a .ly domain?

This seems like a bitch, but I have a 3 letter LY I want. According to the registrars it has to be done through Libya Telecom (this seems sketch as hell). Tips? Anything?

I haven't registered any myself, but I did read a report about a .ly domain being revoked earlier this month, so I'd be afraid to use this TLD. It was a URL shortener that catered to adult sites. Supposedly, this violates the policies set by the registrar for .ly. Here is an article that talks about the issue. The article also mentions that .ly domains shorter than four characters are being reserved for use by those with a presence in Libya, so you may not be able to get a three letter domain.

I have to wonder how Bit.ly and Ow.ly got theirs then. Maybe it was before the rule was made. Maybe it's risky of me to want a domain from a rogue state with a dictator anyway

.ly is unsafe

Just be careful when going for .ly .

The domain was seized by the Libyan domain registry for reasons which seemed to be kept obscure until we escalated the issue. We eventually discovered that the domain has been seized because the content of our website, in their opinion, fell outside of Libyan Islamic/Sharia Law.
