Anyone else using Duckduckgo for search?

I started looking around for other search engines because I'm starting to get creeped out by how much Google knows about me, and came across DuckDuckGo.

One of their selling points is that they don't track anything, and their results set seems cleaner than Google's.

So far, so Cool Story Bro, but they have a couple of Geek friendly features, like !bang commands where you can type

e.g. "!php foreach" (for the php docs) or "!wiki communists" (to search wikipedia)

and it will automatically pass the result to the specific site's internal search.

It's also got an API that you can use to pull some of their results like categories & summaries, :

Which I'm sure the developers amongst you could use for content generation.

Anyone else been using it?

Yes - it's excellent.


But still not as good as Google.
Consider using https://google.com, NoScipt, AdBlock, Privoxy and Tor, and, um, deleting your cookies.

The searchbar is what got me into it - being able to type !php into the bar is very handy as I'm just getting back into coding again.

Bing is one of its sources. It uses Wolfram Alpha as well, and I think it has its own crawler.

I primarily use it, but mostly for the !bang (!wiki !yt !amazon !urban, etc). EMD's are ranked way too highly it's like Google 3 years ago for many terms. However, the !bang and some of the zero click info is good.

DDG has the infinity scroll function were as you scroll down the page it keeps adding more results. it would suck if Google ever goes to the infinity scroll on their pages, no real advantage if you are in the top-10 at that point.
