So, this is my first attempt at an Adsense site - I picked a poor niche for my first try. Too much competition, not enough traffic, and the keywords don't pay as well as google indicates (google keyword tool shows $10+, but clicks are only paying me like $0.25 each).

Regardless, please take a look and let me know what you think:
http://www.lhrhq.com/

I know that it sucks graphically, but I have no abilities in that area.

Fire away!

For a pure MFA site, its not bad.

One thing I would do is link all the articles right on the front page i.e. "cost" "treatment time"

Headers should read "Houston Laser Hair Removal Clinics" not "Laser Hair Removal HQ - Houston Laser Hair Removal Clinics." Besides getting a better CTR is the SEs, it might even boost the listing.

I would add a ton of more pages, get a page up for at least 100 US cities.

A quick query of Overture gives me this:
78309 hair laser removal
6204 hair laser new removal york
3961 cost hair laser removal

You should have a seperate page for every single keyphrase here. You can get more accurate data by joining Wordtracker.com and signing up for Adwords and using their tools. Try to go for at least 4 paragraphs of content per page, but its not mandatory.

You may be right, this niche may be too competative, but you can use this same approach to build a new page for a niche you think is better. I wouldn't focus on the high paying clicks but rather look at what has strong search volume and least results.

It's best to practice and learn on a site that may not get the traffic and then when you are ready, add the pages. Have them ready and be prepared. I practice on my blog that I have and after I move on, I'll keep it going and improve it. One never forgets their "first"!

I think some color would be great. It is fairly easy to do. How about a couple photos? Got a female friend or relative w/a mustache? Long leg hair?

Here is a suggestion of mine. You really dont have to be really advanced at HTML/Web Design to come up with a decent site.
1) Go to a open source web design site and snag a good clean css website. They are free but you might ahve to notify the creator. A good site for that is http://www.oswd.org/http://wickedfire.com/www.oswd.org they have a great selection.
2) Then after you edit the site to your liking then I would move to content placement. Were as I think you topic is still marketable you might need to approach from a different angle. I think having landing pages for different cities is a great idea. 100 of them is another story. The reason I say this is because this is your first attempt.
3) I would incorporate some education on your site. You dont have to have a novel just some general info. Almost in blog or wordpress style. Make it appealing.
4) I dont think you need to much color. I like the white color theme in this since you are going for a medical field. Again it is the small things that add up. The more white to more sterile. Subconsciencely it might play to be a more learned source than a merid of colors. I would stick to professional in: content, pics, and layout with a lot of white space. These of course are suggestions.
5) Also next with the pages I would investigate if you can use some local sponsored search ads with the individual pages. It might boost those click rates.
6) Lastly what helped me out a lot in setting up websites is reading googles help article that involved heat mapping and ad placement. I believe it is on the adsense site. If I am also not mistaken there was a post about it as well. An admin can step in to confirm that.

These are some steps that I think would help drastically.

Thank you all for the suggestions - I really appreciate it. I'm going to make some of the changes over the next day or two - I'll let you know when I've got something done.

Thanks again!

I would like to clear up something I talked about.

When I said, "5) Also next with the pages I would investigate if you can use some local sponsored search ads with the individual pages. It might boost those click rates."

What this is pertaining to is if you make demographically specific pages for laser surgery. It will generate ad's specifically for that area and hopefully get you more ctr on your ads. Just some suggestions but a solid first effort. Looked better than mine. Keep it up and us posted.

Your link doesnt work.

Also just some advice is to get a new more marketable domain. The current one doesnt seem to have any rhyme or reason to it. You are kind of limiting your type in traffic.

Domain name

All of the laser hair removal sites I could think of were taken either taken or waaaay too long - this is just the initials: Laser Hair Removal HQ (LHRHQ). But I agree - it doesn't make a ton of sense. I'll try some more to come up with a good one.

Thanks for the idea.
