Hello Everyone,

I regularly travel to the UAE, specifically Dubai and Abu Dhabi and I was wondering if any users here are based there.
I'd like to establish some business associates abroad

Thanks

I'd be surprised if WF isn't blocked out there.. When I was there I couldn't browse shit without it being blocked by their proxy.

And interesting thing was that the guy from their IT ministry was fucking proud of it -- and claimed that people wanted us to block stuff -- when he was attending IGF in Hyderabad.

I was wondering if this website would be blocked out there, but in fairness it is a general webmaster/internet marketing forum, so it shouldn't technically be banned. Although some of the content could cause issues haha

Whats a bit crazier is one of my friends step-dads now lives in Abu Dhabi now and his mum travels back and forth to the UK. His mum and step-dad were on cam to each other and his dad in Abu Dhabi took his top off (heh..) and the connection was instantly lost and wouldn't connect again till his top was back on..

I'm not sure if the situation is any better or worse now but I was there trying to watch videos and Youtube and tons of them would be blocked, however access to Youtube itself was not - all sorts of content, from music videos to just people with an opinion on something. Social profiles blocked, tons of results from 'clean' searches blocked, even a website about one of the prisons there I was trying to look at was blocked. Its way worse than any corp/college/school network filter I've seen. They have also implemented it in China but I don't know how bad that is, and they have (or are just about to) do the same in Aus to block (supposedly) child porn. If it comes to it, the skittles thread must stay.

lol, im pretty sure they don't monitor webcam chats. Anways, I live there and WF is not blocked. I'd say I can still see around 50% of the pics in the skittles thread.

The UAE has successfully prosecuted people who attempted to bypass Etisalat's exclusive telecommunications access. Two people who set up a voice-over Internet protocol (VoIP) router and transferred calls from the Internet to the UAE telephone system were sentenced to three months in jail plus a substantial fine.
That's some heavy shit.. Surely getting dick rolled would land you atleast 6 months? But seriously, jailtime for that? Going to prison for wanting freedom to information is taking it too far don't you (and people you know) agree?

The topics most sensitive for the UAE are those the state views as offensive to adherents of Islam. These include pornography, gambling, homosexuality, and other cultural issues. Conversion of Muslims to other faiths is a sensitive issue. Dating services that allow dating non-Muslims are also of concern. Politically, terrorism is a focus, and the security forces monitor extremist groups. Criticism of the government, Islam, or of UAE nationals are also highly sensitive subjects.
Does it ever set you back with aff related stuff? Are AFF, 888, etc ads all blocked I take it? And how is pornography defined? Surely its pretty fucking strict if you can only view half the pics in the skittles thread?

Btw both sources here

Hi Giga! My sis will be headlining at the Burj soon....
Where do you hang out in town?

I'm pretty sure AFF and most adult sites are blocked. VOIP is technically banned, but it doesn't stop anyone from using it.

Personally, I just buy a $15/mo VPN in the US and use it and I don't have to deal with that BS. 160$ yearly VPN fee <<< 25k i save in taxes every year.
