Inspired by Wiredniko's Journal, I thought I would start my own thread.

I've read enough about this stuff (on and off for years now) and figured it was about time I did something about it. Applied to a number of Affiliate programs. Got denied by most but did just get accepted by MediaTrust. :D

My AM suggested I try one of the PayDay Loans or Identity Theft Protection products. Any thoughts on these folks? I guess they're quite competitive fields.

  • Got my hosting set up
  • Installed Prosper202/Tracker202
  • Approved by affiliate
  • Now to do some competitive research

Cheers,
Af.

Good luck dude...and I will take that as a complement.

Hit me up on AIM if you have any questions. I still consider myself a newbie, but maybe I have had to deal with the same issue you are facing.

Things you want to think about is how much money are you willing to lose per month until you make it and still enjoy your life?

pick something you can afford to thoroughly test. Not knowing your budget, I'm going on a limb, but payday loans can get expensive unless you're clever

I agree with imkazu.

I started with acai berry and a biz op offer. Its disheartening spending $100 and getting $0.

With dating even if you are running a bad campaign at least you will still see some conversions and get a feel.

When you make $0 it simply means its not working but gives you no leads.

Some very good points there. THanks for the input folks.

I'm going to set a weekly budget which I'm happy to lose as part of my learning experience. I was also thinking of trying out a few Amazon products as a simple "get my feet wet" type of deal. Whilst they might not pay out much, it will be a good learning experience for me.

dchuk, are pay day loans expensive because of the high competition in that area, therefore raising keyword prices, etc.?

Cheers,
Af.

Do dating on social dude. Unless you're retarded, you should atleast see a few leads which will encourage you. And TBH breaking even on dating is pretty easy, its just optimizing to get a decent ROI that can be tough.

Social is easiest for getting a quick ROI. Test some eye catching Facebook ads if you want to spend a little to test the market, and ask your AM what his other guys are doing on there thats successful. You don't always have to pay for ads either, loads of people market free on FB using pages as a doorway. It means brushing up on the latest tricks with FB and learning a little about how to convert on there - but its worth it.
Best of luck mate.

As most people have said, dating is easy even if you are not making profit you are making some sales.

I did a bizop offer, made $40 spent $400

Yeah that sucked. It does not mean that bizop offers do not work, I was just a newb...and still am.

I bid "make money" with CPC like a dork.

Alrighty, hearing you all loud and clear. Here's my plan ...

  1. I'm going to try a long term SEO based (no cost) Identity Threat Protection product.
  2. I'll try a dating product too at the same time.

So, in researching dating, I see PoF mentioned a lot. I assume they're a dating site but with a strong advertising platform tied to it. Is that correct?

So do ppl use PoF to pump their ads through to a targeted audience (like you might on Facebook) or is there something I'm missing?

Cheers,
Af.

Just on the whole PoF and dating scheme, what is the general application?

1) Ads > LP's > Dating Offer
2) Ads > Dating Offer

??

You got the idea.

PoF gives really good targeting options...better than Facebooks. So a lot of people advertise there. Go to ads.pof.com and you can get all the info you need.

You should also read Profit Addiction's blog on PoF and Mr Green Blog on it as well.

1) Ads > LP's > Dating Offer
2) Ads > Dating Offer

??

Ads > Dating when you are a newb
Ads > LP > Dating Offer when you get it.

At least that is how I am going for it.

Heaps of great advice. Thanks folks. :) I've decided to take a 3-pronged approach to get a feel for different areas as I learn. I'm perfectly comfortable with the website/programming side of things so don't need to spend any money there. I have set myself an upper limit of $500/mth which I am willing to lose over the first 2 months. After Christmas, I'll up that to $1000/mth.

Niche product site
I've pulled together a pretty nice Wordpress site with some content, etc. around this particular niche. Throughout it I'm promoting some Amazon products as well as some products from another affiliate.

Intend to look at promoting this primarily through SEO. This niche has a lot of forums and avenues like that around so it will be interesting to see if I can give it any traction.

I'm planning to "go-live" with this one in a couple days.

MediaTrust product
I've decided to go with one of the MediaTrust products but am looking at promoting it through some social networks. I've got a couple ideas I would like to try out in pulling people's emotional strings.

My next step is to pull together a little website with LPs to test for this product.

Dating through Social
I haven't moved on this as yet but have been reading a little more about it. Signed up to PoF so now just need to find some decent dating products to promote and give things a whirl. This is where I will be experimenting with paying for ads so where my money will initially go.

Hopefully the next time we chat I'll have my first set of stats to publish.

Cheers,
Af.
