I currently opened up a new adwords account and put up ads to new domain, and hit some very high minimum bids ($1.00 to $5.00). Now my problem with this is, how am I supposed to show Google that I can achieve a good CTR if the minimum bids are rediculous.

Now I went onto another account we had, and modified a pre-existing ad, and was able to get the bids down to .10. Then I went and created a new adgroup within that campaign, and sure enough the $1.00 bids were back.

So whats up? Are modified ads that are pre-existing not being affected by the new algo? You can only modify so many ads until you run out anyways, so what do I do? Do I start a new ad group and try to swallow the high minimum bids until they drop?

Thanks,
Eduardo.

When you first start an adwords campaign you'll find that you will have to bid higher to compete with existing competition. This is also due to the fact that your ads don't yet have a quality score. What I do is spend more money getting some clicks through and then work with the keyword producing the higher CTR's. Then slash your bids down 50% to reduce cost and you should generally maintain a good position. Then tweak and refine, tweak and refine...

not sure if this works anymore - run the add for a few minutes with then pause the campaign and wait a few days - then go back in and reduce the bid. It used to work. Not sure if they fixed this yet
