AdWords Keyword Tool Competition/CPC

Have a question I have been wondering about for a long time and no one has been able to help me yet...

When using the adwords keyword tool I like to check out (go figure) the estimated CPC and competition.

Many times, however, I find a high CPC and a high "competition" score yet no ads...

An example I ran across today is for the keyword internet club

Global search volume is at 1.2 million, competition is said to be "high" and CPC is $2.12

Now when I type the kw into Google search I get 0 ads showing up...no matter how many times I click search NOTHING shows up...how is that high competition?

I show 25 competitors

make sure you check out the volume for the keyword also. There's no sense in advertising for phrases that get 25 monthly searches.

If G determines that the site is not relevant to the keyword then the ad will not be triggered, regardless of the bid.

When you do a search specifically for sponsored links like that do the advertisers still pay when you click on the ad?
