Adsense Page CTR 20% - Good or Bad?

So I have a lil' website, nothing special actually..

  • I did not try to optimize ads or website layout to deceive visitors into clicking;
  • I'm not buying any traffic or using any bots or whatever blackhat methods ppl use;
  • I'm not overcrowding my site with too many ad modules (1 at the top of the post, one in sidebar and one at the end of the post);
  • In fact 92% of my traffic is Google Organic (I rank pretty well)

Yet my Adsense account says my Page CTR is 20%

My only explanation to this phenomenon is that my content is not very informative. It's human written, it reads fine, but It's boring and it doesn't answer the question.

Anyways... does anyone have Page CTR that big? Is that risky or as long as my traffic is natural I will be fine?

Never had that one that high. I would imagine Google would think it's weird but if they do a manual review of your site and if everything you say is true I think you'll be fine.

20% is not unreasonable, make sure you have a privacy policy, and T&C, you aren't blatantly violating the intentionally vague AdSense TOS, and you should be "fine", and by that I mean, you will have eliminated all of the official reasons the AdSense team can decide to say "fuck this, we aren't paying this publisher anymore".

but no, 20% isn't extreme.

just in case this is how my layout looks like (blurred)

Can't see your image, because you are violating imageshack's TOS, but from what you described, you won't have a problem.

I don't know how thin your site is, but 1 pagers seem to be less likely to survive a manual review.

I tend to think of it like this: you can use AdSense to monetize content all you want, but if you make it too obvious that you are publishing content just to hang AdSense on, and you get a manual review, you might be unhappy with the results.

and no.. my site is not a single page

"publishing content just to hang AdSense on" - this looks like a definition of MFA, which transforms your point into smth like this: "All MFAs should be dropped"

yes, my site is definitely MFA.. I've created it with a sole purpose of making some money with ads.

yet I was ordering pretty decent content and while I was reading/checking it I've actually learned a few things myself.

but anyway.. where's that line between "mfa content" and "standalone content supported by an adsense block"? I think even humans will argue about each case, and Google is just a machine. In fact, as far as I know, all adsense bans are algorithmical - based on click bombing and deceptive traffic.

So I don't think MFA builders should care that much about their site looking as "non MFA", Google can't spot that (yet)

this is incorrect.

see the mandatory review when your account hits 3k/mo for clarification.

also, your site looks fine.

as far as content quality goes, build good sites that people can use, and you'll get more out of it than money.

mr IceToEskimos, thanks for answering my questions.. much appreciated!

now can some moderator please delete this thread?

I've just discovered it's against google tos to share your ctr somewhere :)

20% is a good CTR, I wouldn't worry about Google finding out you shared you CTR either :p...

as others have mentioned. You may get a manual review for your high CTR so make sure you website is up to standard and any other website that may be using the same adsense account.

Sounds about normal.

Given high visibility placements, well targeted advertisers, and visitor interest in said advertisers 15-45% is pretty normal.

Most people fail to realize how much more your niche has to do with click through then your placements.

It's boring and it doesn't answer the question, but you still get 20% CTR, that's pretty amazing. As you said, if you have not applied any black hat methods then don't worry. We will be fine.Write some content that engages users. Sometimes they click on links to go away!

CTR

I’ve seen blogs that have done everything that they can to increase CTR and are still under 1% while have seen others that get into double figures. I suspect that most bloggers fall somewhere in between that and would fit into the 2%-5% range.

20% eh, we can't stop here, this is bat country ;)
That's high as hell man, try to get more visits, lower that beauty, add some content to the site.
