Stopped reading after....

"You can’t make money. Seriously, Apple is always talking about the billions and billions they pay out of the app store, so why is it that I don’t know anyone who’s making serious money on mobile apps"

Well, he sounds pretty bitter...

If he doesn't like the way things are, and is oh-so-smart, then develop a new technology. If it's good, people will pick it up, and it'll gain adoption.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Typical phrase from a Silicon Valley wantrepreneur, Hacker News reading, Feminism-loving programmer faggot. See he wants to make money with some 'beautiful' app that will 'change the world'. He's got no hustle in him to upload the crappy apps with the scammy in app purchases that DO make money. I've no problem pumping in these apps. I can show him my iTunes Connect stats if he wants :)

The thing is, these guys tend to be fantastic programmers. Thank God they've got no hustle in them or I could be in trouble.

I completely agree with "client side sucks".

Honestly, as far as client side goes, I'm happiest sticking with the command line for a client. I haven't created any iOS apps, but I'm sure they are just as boring to make as Android.

I'm as annoyed by HN faggots as much as anyone, but if you think Tim Bray is worried about making money from shitty mobile apps, you're the faggot this time. The dude is definitely not a wannabe, he's a well respected programmer.

Javascript is a really, really, really good language overall. Everything in the browser sucks, but Node absolutely kills every other platform when it comes to actually developing an app. That's not at all purely because it's Javascript, but it's a very balanced and versatile language on its own.

Also, you have to watch out for developers, because a lot of them aren't grounded and the smarter they are the worse decisions they make. Like OK I get it, Erlang is a beautiful language, but you'd have to be a fucking idiot to decide on building a commercial product with it.

He obviously hates Javascript because it's not Erlang and he hates the browser. It's not purely functional programming, but you can do functional programming with it. That sort method he brought up as an example of why it sucks is absolutely ridiculous. The default sort method is alpha because it works on all data types. You might get something unexpected, but that's nothing compared to any other way they could have done it.

I mean I'm sure the guy is brilliant, but bias makes smart people really nasty and stupid sometimes. I'm sure whoever he works with has to fight him a lot because he just has to make a point about why X is better than Y even though nobody knows how to do X and it would be a nightmare to maintain.
