1 Blog, 3 options; Help me choose...

Let's suppose you wanted to start a blog for a site you have - which option would you choose and why:

1. blog in a directory of a site - http://site.com/blog/
2. blog as a subdomain - http://blog.site.com
3. blog on its own domain - http://blog.com

I would say door number 1 in that situation, but that's just my preference, I don't really have strong reasoning for it.

if it is just a blog, then 3 else no 1

I don't like sub-domains.

I should clarify, if the blog has to do with a site you already own then I like option 1, like I said above.

If the blog is totally new and has nothing to do with your other sites then buy a new domain for it.
