Ok so I've been searching for a way to block makemoniesonline.com with Firefox but couldn't neither find a built-in function or add-on for that. So I started googling and finally found something that WORKS...here are the steps...

Be logged in as a privileged user.
Open a DOS command window, type:
notepad C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Put the following line in hosts:
127.0.0.1 www.google.com (whatever you want to block)
File > Save.
Now try to open http://www.google.com with any web browser on the PC.
Remove the line you added from hosts to restore access to the Google
web site

AWESOME!!!! I can't be dickrolled anymore... :action-smiley-052:

Come on!!!

No Script add on for Fire Fox stops it dead in it's tracks.

Oh, and for your hosts file you will need about 9 different entries of the various re-direct URL's if you really want to be safe.

Some of these guys here are pretty creative!! LOL

Here's a question for you, when you do get dick rolled, what do "you" do to stop it without re-booting your system?

Rebooting the system? Just Ctrl-Alt-Delete and close the browser.

Yes, I just open Task Manager and go to applications or processes and shut down that browser instance and I'm good to go.

I was asking "HIM" because I have seen quite a few people post up complaining that they need to re-boot their system to get rid of it. (Which I have never understood.)

Firstly I maximise firefox, this stops the window resizing. next I click the close tab, this brings up the "were no strangers to dick". Finally this is the tricky part, you have to hit enter on that popup to close it and straight away close the tab with the mouse.

Works on my linux box not a bother.

If you're using chrome you just have to tick a box in the first popup on makemoniesonline that will stop any more popups and close the page, you don't have to reload the browser or anything.

Although the song does continue for a while..

Since there are some clones , you can't say you won't get dickrolled again, most art listed here: MMO clones - WickedFired - Affiliate Marketing Forum - Internet Marketing Webmaster SEO Forum.

If you have firefox, one thing that would help regardless of the clone is turn off javascript's ability to control context windows and parent window size:

1) Preferences.
2) Content Tab
3) Advanced button next to Enable Javascript
4) Uncheck Move/Resize existing window
5) Uncheck disable or replace context menu

#4 is kind of obvious, but #5 basically stops the annoying shit like disabling right click and so forth.

In Safari (on a mac) if I need to quickly close something rather quickly there is always Command+Q (kinda like Alt-F4) , if not that then there is Command+Alt+Esc which brings up the force quit menu. But normally on Safari if you can click the 'x' on the tab right after the next javascript alert it tends to drop it.

There's also adblock for firefox, as a lot of the times the clones keep the same swf name. so you can block a wildcard pattern of them. Though NoScript does pretty well for stopping javascript on untrusted sites (though always makes first impressions of other sites kind of shitty).

Yea cuz rebooting the system and screaming 'Virus!, I've been infected', is so like the DP crowd. :P
I have my own pet names for the other forums.

D.P. = Dick Pullers. When alone they pull there own and when in a group they just pull on each other's.

WaFo= Worry and Fuss. I swear that is all they do!! They worry about EVERYTHING and then make a big fuss over the most basic crap.

I still fondly remember my first dick roll here. It was my first encounter with it and I just reflexively started laughing. Of course "I" like the song it plays as well. I knew it was just a java script and saw that it was only messing with my browser so I had no anxieties about it. After I let it run it's course for a couple of minutes to see if it would do anything more than call me gay for how many spins I watched, I just shut it down and made my first post in the n00b section.

I started checking all the re-directs and adding them to my hosts file as I ran across them.

By the way, I do use the AdBlock add on as well in Fire Fox. I have something like 23 add ons installed in FF.

Back in the 80's a buddy gave me a Basic Batch file that would cause the characters on the screen to start dropping down line by line until they were all at the bottom and then disappeared and left the screen blank. It only affect the video display driver for character mapping so all the data was still there, you just couldn't see it until you reactivated it.

I use to install it on the computers in the office and when someone was typing up a document and left their desk I would go over and hit the hot key to start the routine. They'd come back to their desk and FREAK out thinking that they had lost their work and that the computer was now on the fritz. When they left their desk to get help I would go over and hit the other hot key so that when they got back everything was restored back to what was and whoever they brought over thought that they were NUTZ!!

It was a good couple of months before I got caught. The boss thought it was GREAT and wanted a copy!! LOL (He was a pretty fun and decent guy.)

Welcome to last year. My hosts file is changed like 20 minutes after I get a new computer or reformat.

That's fucking awesome.

First I mute it, shut my eyes and wait for it to do its 3ish cycles around. It eventually stops moving. Then I use the Web Developer Toolbar to turn off JS, and just close the tab. Don't even need to restart my browser.

i just wait for it to stop being GAY and click ok 389333 times while i'm cursing like a truck driver if one was to walk in they might think i was enjoying it
