Blogging for Bucks

Thanks Andrew,

Please update this thread when you post the new one about content.

Also do you have any suggestions for plugins to use? I'm specifically talking about plugins to help with affiliate insertion, but any others would be helpful as well.

Thanks

generating content is a little different from the stuff in this thread, which i was planning to have it be more focused on the research, setup and positioning of the blog.

i had some thoughts about content and will post it in a new thread. (or the section most related to content).

affiliate links - you can use alinks, or if you want to use one of the other paid or open-source ones, they'd work too...

most individual plugins won't make or break a blog.

-text links/banners -> really depends on the blog, the niche, the offer, the audience. the best way would be to use either a heatmap, or set up click tracking for your banner and text link and test and track.

For the people who keep asking about doing this on a free blog, I would do it with Squidoo instead of blogger because google tends to like squidoo a bit more (they used to obsessed with it 5 months ago). You can then submit the rss feeds to places like submitemnow, and you use onlywire.com to social bookmark quickly. But the only benefit you get out of doing it with a site like squidoo is that it's easier to climb the serps than with your freshly made site.

Why would you go to a forum with huge people there (who would come to your site) and look for high PR pages?

You can look for high PR and/or trustrank pages from organic SERPs or something like SEO Elite and hit those up...

Or hijack expired domains or blogger blogs or squidoo lenses if you want to play with PR....

If you want authority links, you're better off with articles, press releases, squidoo, hub pages,

Find out which pages in those forums have the highest pr. SEO them. Bank even more.

I'm planning on starting a blog for a dating site in a niche that's been doing well in PPC. The articles are relevant to the site, there's going to be 5 articles written for a month. Articles are keyword rich, LSI, etc.. I'm only worried about traffic, I got everything else down. I know how to install a WP blog, got a professional writer, know where to purchase backlinks from, I'll do some social bookmarking as well. Don't know how to get inbound links, just find a site that's closely related in the niche and e-mail them? Any other advise to get traffic? My offer (sign up) is free so I'm trying to get as much traffic as possible. Don't want to purchase too many backlinks to where Google gets alerted, although I don't know how much is too much, and what's a minimum. Also, would you go with a smaller number of high PR backlinks or more lower number PR links? or just mix it up?

Any advise on how to get traffic would be appreciated.

Thanks

Look in the buy/sell/trade section and get some guy to submit the blog into every blog/rss directory they can find. that's a min of 200 backlinks right there, many of which are PR2 - PR4.

Look for appropriate widgets too - i like mybloglog. it might be good to get blog catalog, though i dont think blogrush will be useful.

then the regular squidoo, hub page, blogger backlinks to your blog...

Is this a one time thing? Or do you do this every week?

you can only submit a site / blog to a directory one time so its a one time thing for every blog you own....if you own a lot of sites/blogs then it could be a weekly or even daily thing

Well, I was wondering since I can find several people who can submit my blog to directories, but don't know if they're all submitting to different directories, what's a good number per week? Do you think it's possible to find 200 different directories to submit my blog to per week?

Thanks

When you start getting into that many directories, you're wasting your time/money. Most services start with the highest PR/well-known directories and go down from there. IMO, once you get past the first 500 directories you'd be better off spending that extra time and money on your site or more sites.

Go through alexa and hit the first 50-100 directories.

else you could get a blog submission job through the buy/sell/trade section, pay some kid to do the submit and slip in your blogs for them to submit at the same time.

so the person paying you, would effectively pay for your submission.

PS: avoid all those blog submission type software/services being promoted through blog and email spam, they dont work.

back to the question about where to find people to do your submissions,
find someone competent on the various forums in the buy/sell services sections.

If you are going to do a lot of them, you might look up someone on elance or monster.com (you usually have to filter out a lot of crapola people, so do it only if you're going to submit at least 50-100 blogs...)

if you might be thinking about doing this (blog directory submission) as a long term biz, you might want to hook up with a work-at-home mum or a stay-at-home mum, and sub stuff out to her for a cut of the commissions.

the most important factor is to audit the work your outsource does though, you don't want to pay for 1000 submissions and find that the person only did the work of 5-10 submissions...

Seriously, is John paying you to post this?

You can check out mark wiegel's top100 money making blog listing at 45n5.com/top100

I would advise taking a long term view when you're planning your blog monetization, ideally one that doesn't involve posting to your blog multiple times a day.

a lot of the top bloggers are personally posting 3-4 times a day, which i think takes away from the other stuff you could be doing...

andrew-if you want to see a profitable blog in progress, check out john chow's site.
last month alone he made $23K on just his blog-and it's very informative.

Hi there,

I started out with a blog this is the second version of the site ..in the first one i managed to get some posts to get popular on digg and other social bookmarking sites and got a few backlinks..then i got and put the site on auto-blogging scraping from other sites..it didnt do that good. I took it off.

Now its back will all new content and stuff and i do spend a lot of time working on it..google indexes my pages in less than 10 minutes..and get my keywords ranked well fast..but my problem is now that the people who end up on my site hardly stay there..so i plan to change the theme..but i end up changing the theme every couple of days and no result avg time spent on site is a few seconds..no ad clicks too..the thing about blogging is if there isn't enough interest generated i loose my fucking interest.

on good days it had gone upto 33k uniques in a day..but that was just pure luck..
