Need Legal Help - Revenge Site

I think the scariest part about this thread is that someone could easily come to WF impersonate their enemy or someone they just simply want revenge on, start posting as they were person they wanted to ruin, lay some some groundwork for a few posts/days, go full retard as bait, then the lynch mob here goes fucking bananas... basically destroying the intended targets rep.

I doesn't seem to be the case with OP or KaniGT but it would be hard at all to impersonate them, throw out some chum, and get the guns blazing here. Just sayin'

now that I got that off my chest....

It'd take a lot of time and energy to elaborate such thing. Drew created his profile on 10-10-2010, so basically the impersonator literally had to dedicate years and multiple profiles updated that look natural. Now, if the case gets to the cops, the IP logs would reveal the identity of the man behind the curtain.

You under estimate the intelligence of the group. These guys are experts in seeing through the BS. I have yet to see a public lynching that was not deserved. WF is second only to the US government when it comes to verifying the proper identity of its prey.

But you could take anyone you want to fucking ruin, signup here with their nick they use at any other forum or any footprint they have... ie: email, skype, aim, any handle they use etc. The hellblazers here will link the footprints together and it will snowball.

Bait for 5-10 posts then go full retard or act like you are next to a pool and call some people out... shit then hits the fan.

Someone could easily pull that off in under a week with about an hour's worth of time.

I think the last thing anyone wants to do at this point is tempt WF by trying to exploit this machine for their own ends. Too easy for it to go wrong, and we all know what the consequences can be.

The effectiveness of this thing is what keeps it free from abuse, imo.

That being said, it's probably only a matter of time until somebody tries it, and I look forward to that day personally.

OP is learning that the site is going to be more trouble than its worth. I know Hunter Moore sold his site for like 15k, but that was only after receiving multiple death threats.

I'm friends with the attorney who represents ROR and thedirty, and he will be the first to tell you that the people who own the sites do take a lot of heat. Some of it justified, some of it not.

I can't speak for those two sites, but I know a lot of these "gripe" and "revenge" sites don't make a ton of money. If you charge to remove posts, you're setting yourself up for extortion. If you remove a post you start setting a trend that will allow others to go after you for picking and choosing what to remove (which can get you out of CDA immunity).

I get contacted regularly by people wanting to start sites like this and I turn them away, since the attorneys who represent these sites get death threats as well (calls to homes, anthrax, etc.).

While legally he may have some immunity under the CDA, and some "fair use" protection for copyright (criticism) in the end he's going to spend tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars on legal fees to defend lawsuits.

My advice, and not as a lawyer, just shut down the site, clear the cache and move on.
 
Umm as someone this happened to (non nudes posted and memes) GO FUCK yourself- PS its a copyright issue u are going to get sued for most of the time max 150K PER person- have fun! Oh and BTW to theis remark-This whole "anti-bullying" thing has gotten way out of control. It teaches people how not to take responsibility for their life and doesn't fucking prepare anyone for adulthood. Here in the Uk if the gutter tabloids (ie. Daily Mail) got hold of one mm of that story it'd be all over it. They'd use ridiculous phrases like "Internet hacker destroying lives of young girls" "Website dedicated to making people's lives hell and get them to attempt suicide" etc.

They absolutely love all that shit, and normally it irritates me with their unbelievable levels of ignorance, but in this case it'd be worryingly acurate!
