Blogging for Bucks

Was talking to a contact yesterday and a YSM rep was saying that 'emotional marketing' is something they're actively incorporating into their PPC programs.

What the heck is emotional marketing?

It's a little like geotargeting, except you can go one step further and specify conditions, like if the weather is sunny, your ad will appear, else it won't.

If stock market is up, your ad will appear, else it won't.

So imagine this,
if the weather is rainy or bad, you might like to have your insurance CPA offer trigger (and get people travelling on planes).

If the weather is sunny, your vacation package CPA/aff mktg/hotels offer would trigger.

You could send the visitor direct to the landing page, but just imagine what would happen if you sent them to a blog page with a single post featuring highly targeted content (Stripping away everything else that is clickable).

So their only choice is to click on your aff link.

Pre-empt all possible scenarios and dev blog content based on your conditions:
1) sunny
2) rainy
3) blizzards/hail
4) long hot dry summer

and PPC them to the appropriate blog post.

You don't have to go at traffic gen using blogging alone, you could drive lots of forms of free and paid traffic to a highly targeted single blog post.

Did this ever get answered?

Blog monetization:
From my experience, I generally dont like adsense, text links, or banner ads.

after putting in so much time into positioning your blog, you'd want to go for a nice juicy CPA offer, or an affiliate marketing offer.

Thanks Andrew for this very informative thread. So how do you do CPA? Do you have aff links in your text or do you promote with banners, or both? Which is more effective?

Oh, there's only 1 or 2 ways, like getting dugg, submitting to a blog/RSS directory, submitting to technorati and tagging your posts, submitting an article/news release, buying a text link, using Eli's SQUIRT system, trackback spamming, pingback spamming, pulling a backlink from high authority site. finding high authority blogs which have disabled their nofollow tags.

Yep, that's it, not many at all.

Hey Andrew, any strategies you would recommend for getting a blog indexed? Thanks!

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I've got lots of experience dealing with sites, but must admit my blog experience is very limited. This is actually for a blog my wife is doing. I think there is some really good potential to monetize it, and I am trying to figure out how to best drive traffic to it.

Andrew, someone in this forum posted a link to a site they use to submit their blog. I think it may have been you but I don't recall. I thought I bookmarked it, but apparently did not do so... If that was you, could you post that link again?

blogging for sbux?

Above reference to Sbux is only a play on the enormous incorporation of EVERYTHING....which I am not against:yin-yang: Anyway, I have been researching various forms of internet marketing recently and I am VERY interested in blogging. I've got a couple ideas that I think could be replicated/customized and personalized pretty easily. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows of a precedent?..as in other smart (or dumb) people doing something similar so that I can SEE what it looks like a bit as I'm building my blog. In any case, I'm a musician, so I'm considering a blog either about the local rock music scene here in Nashville, or about something even more niched, like a personal blog following the building of our band from scratch as we encounter various obstacles, etc. Probably a million of these out there, but I'm not sure if anyone has actually tried USING it in the biz sense.

Also, what about a blog on CHANGE? Human dynamics of change and life change...i.e. financial, health, religious, moral, etc. Similar to dirtsimple.org and his ebook, You 2.0. I love that blog! and it gave me LOTS of ideas on how to do something similar. I've already got the domain and website, just need more details and content.

Hi,
Why not just do it.

PS: Promoting a $7 ebook/report in your sig for your first post?
I'm not sure if you're freaking brave, or freaking stupid.
Maybe both.

Be like Nike?

Andrew,

You make a good sounding board. Hmmm..."sounding board"...sounds like a new forum for musicians......errr...anyway, yes, I'm brave and stupid. Have to be a little of both to even buy the IDEA of internet marketing. Shit, it's not like I'm doing Shaklee or something! People look at me like I'm in a cult or something when I tell them what I spend approximately 1/2 of my waking hours doing. At least, in this forum, it sort of FEELS like I'm looking at porn :rasta:

Once I finish prepping said blog, maybe I'll use that as my sig (seems to be the accepted norm around here for experts). 'til then, my ebook will have to do. When building my profile, there was an ebook shaped hole in the sig section. Felt like putting something in it. Does that make me a dick?:Yahoo_29:
