Here's the gist:

Veronica, a 25-year-old Christian blogger in Oregon, used to wear form-fitting leggings. Her husband Dale told her, "I can't take my eyes off other ladies' asses when they wear those things."[1]

So Veronica, in a fit of modesty and Christian conviction, decided to stop wearing leggings in public. She then blogged about her decision.

That "story" is boring. But the PR blitz behind it is interesting.

Dale, the lust-filled husband, describes himself as a "serial entrepreneur." He posted a link to his wife's blog post on one of his social media accounts.

The story took off and went viral. In the last few weeks, it has been covered on ABC News, People, Christianity Today and lots of other properties.

As silly as it sounds, it has become a polarizing issue, sparking contentious debate that has further stoked the PR flames.

If you glance through Veronica's previous blog posts, you'll notice a dearth of comments. There's little to no engagement (I have no clue what her social accounts looked like pre-blitz). But this latest "story" has already generated over 750 comments.

Intradesting.

[1] I'm paraphrasing.

I don't feel very Christian when I look at her, form-fitting leggings or not. But there is no denying the effectiveness of these types of polarizing issues.

Very interesting how some of what we would consider "boring" issues are such hot-button topics for others.

Maybe I go work on a blog post about how different races of people smell different or something similarly retarded and upsetting.

Christianity is probably a deep well for stories that get folks riled up.

For example, a Christian could blog about how most Christians support military campaigns that guarantee the slaughter of innocents. And so he has decided to leave his church.

Or he might blog about how gays cannot be Christians,* and therefore has decided to sever ties with his gay Christian friends.

Or he might blog about how Christian women should be submissive to their husbands,* and has decided to teach his daughter to act accordingly.

A viral story needs a decision or action that strikes an emotional chord in folks. A good example is a restaurant owner's recent decision to ban kids from his venue.

That type of decision offends people (mostly women). Moreover, everyone has an opinion on the matter.

That's great fodder for social channels and blogs. It gets people talking about and debating the idea, mentioning the story's originator in the process.

* I'm just brainstorming potential viral ideas, not arguing theology.

Where are the pictures of the tight little asses hugged by yoga pants ? What else is the point of this story but an excuse for ass pics ?

WTF ?

Nose ring too pointy. Woud not ba.....ah fuck it. Would definitely still bang.

Yoga pants don't look good on women unless they have a great body.

Plus, they usually look low-class. Basically, yoga pants are to women what sweat pants are to a guy.

How about putting on a dress or a skirt and actually looking like a classy woman...try that some time!

Man, take your kids to pre-school these days and see how many lazy ass moms there are who just throw on yoga pants and haul the kids off to class. 99.9% of these women have...

1) never even stepped foot near a yoga studio, unless there was a Baskin Robbins next door.

2) no business wearing anything that's form fitting and I'm shocked that there are yoga pants even made in those sizes.

Yoga pants are to women with flat asses what the push up bra is to flat chested women.

I agree that it's a lazy and low class way for women to be sexy. I prefer women in heels and skirt.

I also know that such preferences have become un-pc and I am guessing is that the outrage is actually about that. A bunch of whiny feminists whining about how it is sexist and oppressive that men look at their asses and that women should be able to dress like they want yada yada.

All this fuss over fucking leggings? What about short skirts, mega high heels and crop tops? Leggings look like nun's clothes compared to these.

btw a good christian girl does not wear a nose ring. Why are they painting her as a Christian? She's just another middle aged white woman from the "burbs" who goes to church twice a year (christmas and easter for you non catholics)

Either way, if yoga pants are out, maybe we can bring "foot binding" back?

25 yrs old is now middle aged?? Fuck, you guys are young...

Anywho, let's take a quick look what her husband, Dale, does for a living...

Oh, he has a blog too??
