I'm sitting here in my piece of crap from Staples thinking I may need to step my chair game up. I've been waiting for the Herman Miller Embody chair to come out for about 5 months before I made a decision, and it's finally starting to hit stores for about $1300-$1500.

Has anybody gotten a chance to sit in one? Does anybody plan on getting one?

Here's a link comparing the Aeron & Embody for those interested.

Yea... I'm going to get that as my next office chair. I was planning on buying it sooner but I couldn't find any place I trusted / liked to buy it from when I was in the market so I had to go with something else.

Looks pretty slick, I'd get a different color though

Damn, I just realized how badly I need a new chair =(

I'm sitting in an Embody right now. the Aeron doesn't compare. The Embody is def an upgrade and if you have the extra $$ to spend, do it.

Nice, thanks a lot. Is there any upgrades you'd recommend other than just cosmetic stuff?

I checked out the Leap Steecase chair (leather) at Dr_Ngo's place, and that one is probably the best chair I have tested.

I love my Aeron, well worth the ~$600 I paid 7 years ago, and still going strong. Ass hammock ftw.

The Embody looks like it might have better back support, but I like the open mesh of the Aeron; I think the seat of the Aeron would be cooler than the seat of the Embody, and staying cool through a long day at the computer is extremely important.

I agree about staying cool, and that's one of the biggest complaints I have about mine right now. I wonder if AffAholic or anybody else could explain how "cool" the embody is.

hmmm where do you think the new chair will fit on my Walkstation?

Pretty sweet setup you've got there, it actually got me thinking about how fat I've gotten pumping out LP's and tweaking ppc campaigns the last year.

They say the Embody chair helps out with all sorts of crazy crap, unfortunately I don't think one of those things is burning more calories.

jeesus... and I thought the Aeron was fugly.

Sorry, but the embody is taking "ugly" to new lows.

I've never sat in any of the chairs mentioned in this thread, I don't think there's even any stores around me that would carry them. I'm in the market for a new desk and chair since I am moving in about a week and a half....all I've ever sat in are the normal $200 fake leather chairs they carry at staples. Are these chairs really enough of an upgrade to cover the huge price differences? It might be a stupid question, probably because I've never sat in one, but I have a hard time imagining a chair being so comfortable to justify the price tags that these things carry.

It's not about comfort, it's about not having extreme pain after sitting in one for 12+ hours a day, 5+ days a week.

And yeah the Aeron is very much worth $500-700 in my opinion as a fatass who sits in a chair 14+ hours a day almost every day.

I sit at the computer for probably 10 hours a day in my cheapo Staples chair and I feel fine getting out of it at the end of the day. No back pain or anything. Would you still say its worth it with that being my case? I'm not trying to knock the chairs or say mine is just as good or anything like that at all....I'm honestly just curious because I'm wondering if its something I should still look into as an upgrade since I want to get a new chair anyways.

How many years have you been doing computer work? 15 years or so for me..

I'm only 22 so obviously not 15 years, but I do do this stuff full time. Would getting one of these chairs be like 'preventative maintenance?'

Yes, most likely it would be. There's no saying your Staples chair is complete shit. It might have a bit of lumbar and enough cushion in the seat so that it is fairly comfortable. At 22 you should be ok for awhile. At that age I could have sat on a rock all day and not have noticed. Now that I'm approaching 37 things are a little different. Looking after your posture at your age will help you avoid problems when you get older for sure.

I have a chair from Ikea that is perfectly fine for now, high back, neck rest, lumbar and enough adjustments and it was 1/3rd of what an Aron would cost, but I will probably get an Obusforme high back chair or something similar one of these days.
