Ok, it's the day after the elections and we've got the wrong type of person in office yet again. What we really need is a 3rd choice as the Republocrats have too much power to think clearly what is right for the people.

Here's what I'm advocating:

1. All people with beliefs not directly tied to the Republican or Democratic party need to unite for the greater good. That good being having an honest (wo)man in office who is not corrupted by money, special interest or corporations. It's hard to find, I get that, but the point is that the big 2 are evil all the way down to their roots. Any other option would be better.

2. We, wickedfire members, hold a decent share of internet real estate and get a large amount of daily traffic to push our agenda .. if we start now, we've got 3 years to get the word out before the next big political push. This could be good for our community, not just the country.

3. 3 years is a much better time frame than a few months to get a point across to the sheeple across the country. I believe this is where the 3rd parties across the nation have gone wrong. Campaign 24/7/365 ... not just when elections come around. The internet is perfect for this.

4. The middle class is not well represented by either major party. This is a HUGE ASS MARKET that lacks any real affiliations.

I don't have a clear battleplan in front of me but I'm just tossing some ideas out there so that we can get some brainstorming happening now rather than waiting for 2011.

  • We know websites like politicians know pork. 75% of America has access to the internet as of this year. If we can pull our resources together, we've got a good chance of getting our message across to 1/2 the voting population before the 2012 race even starts. When I say pull our resources, I'm not talking about just dropping banners on existing sites (though it might help). I'm specifically talking about using our linking & SEO power to promote sites that will push our agenda (profiting from these sites is acceptable if it's an issue for anyone). For example, each state has specific political/educational/money/crime issues that people do search for ... these people are our target audience and showing up in the SERPs for these searches would be more effective than a banner on your Acai berry landing pages.
  • We know advertising. As WFers, we are BY FAR the best in the business at making ads & writing content that sells. It would be almost no work for us to come up with some promotional slogans addressing specific issues & have some great creatives built for them.
  • Seeing that the Republican party is failing, if we advocate a tax plan that's good for the middle class (which is also good for the economy as a whole), the top 5% will flock to the party as well. We can pull a big number of Republicans to the cause if we market it right. This concept can be looked at similar to trickle down economics but with a head start. In principal, it sounds like it would work better than the "make the rich richer" or "rob the rich and give to the poor" plans that are on the table currently.
  • We need a face that's respected enough to launch this campaign on solid ground. Ron Paul is not popular enough to be this person, although he is the right man for the job. I don't have suggestions here but if you look back at the semi-successful 3rd parties of the past, they are launched by people like Ross Perot & Teddy Roosevelt.
  • Just brainstorming here but I think someone outside the realm of politics would stand a good chance in an election as he is, by definition, a DC outsider. That was part of the Palin appeal, though she was a 1/2 assed attempt by the Repubs. I'd be ok if it was an economist, businessman (Warren Buffet or Lary Page come to mind), scientist or even a celebrity (ala Ron Reagan).
  • As far as the specific issues go, I'm pretty open believe it or not. My front issue is small government, since neither current party is for this currently I vote taxes. The bottom line is that I'd rather have an honest person in office than someone who caters to my, or anyone else's, specific agenda. I can put any issue aside for the greater good ... that's what I'm asking of you too.
I'm not advocating starting a new party, rather pulling resources to promote the best option that we currently have in place. The early stats show that <1% voted 3rd party this year. Obviously, I'm dissapointed here. I know for a fact that people don't think that black & white. It's a shades of gray world and politics in America doesn't show that.

This is how we can make a difference and it starts now ... 3 years from now is way to late.

Feedback? Comments? Support? Does anyone give a shit?

While it sounds like a good idea; You are posting on the wrong board. This is a huge uninformed Liberal circle jerk.

Right now might not be the best time. So many impressionable people are willing to eat the corn outa Obama's shit at the moment. Give it a few years for Obama to drag us even further in the gutter and they will be ripe for the picking.

@Erect

Ok. I have a domain called notsobig.org that I've never used. I'll contribute that. Lots of unhappy republicans (and democrats too) out there today. Lots of political domains with some traffic that aren't worth reg fee today. PM me please.

Says you.

If you think that Obama's the right person for office, great, stick with the status quo. Personally, I've got great contempt for the powers that be and realize that to play ball I either have to work within the system or declare civil war. #2 is not really an option.

I don't think so, this is the most open minded & crafty webmaster board on the net, even though it wears an AM branding. You won't find better minds outside of Mountain View, CA. You must also know, regardless of which party one thinks they align themself with, we are by far more politically informed than the general population. Hell, they're called sheeple for a reason.

I also feel that people support one of the 2 just because it's mainstream. That doesn't sound like WF to me ... I think this is the right board. How many Ron Paul supporters do we have again? I've seen more than a few roaming.

Give it a few years for Obama to drag us even further in the gutter and they will be ripe for the picking.

A few years is too late and we'll miss the dance. If we can start this network to take the power back now, we can already have a head full of steam by the time the public is "ripe for the picking". That's good planning!

If you guys know anything about me at this point, it's that I'm a reasonable person who is frustrated with a system that offers no options and am not willing to just wait it out. The Republocrats have been in power far too long and it's gone to their head. Look at the 2 candidates ... is that really the best they have to offer? how about the 2004 election? 2000?

The point is, if we wait until 2011 we'll be too late. Building a site network of this scale pulling millions of views monthly for the next 4 years will take some planning and execution ... if anyone can pull it off it's WF

[queue patriotic theme song]

I guess I'm asking for your help pulling off the largest political network on the internet the world has ever seen. Sounds like a hard task but it will really be just like the United States ... dozens of individual sites working together to achieve something better.

Using the collective power of all, we can move mountains and take the power and money back from beurocrats and put it back in our hands (figuratively and literally).

I don't have much to say on this except this thread is dumb.

Can't you accept that maybe Obama will do a good job? Sure, if he screws everything up, then vote him out next time, but the Republicans got George Bush in for 8 years, and you complained about our bitching, and now your hypocritically bitching that a Democrat is in.

It's been less than 24 hours. You can't predict the future.

Feel free to say "I told you so" if he effs up, but at least give him a chance.

Let's buy 30 minute airtime on major networks, we can do it!

That's a great point! Another excellent reason to start this up right now as there are literally hundreds of political domains about to be on the market. These domains currently exist on topic with existing links and cost pennies on the dollar. It would be a nice head start to pick a few up.

I appreciate your donation of the domain, lets wait and see how this thread develops before taking any action. I'm seeing everyone owning & profiting (no, I'm not asking for charity here) from their domains ... while helping out the cause. PMing

I really don't have a clear vision of where I'd like to see this go, though I have a good idea, so any suggestions are very much welcomed (as long as you don't suggest million dollar TV commercials). People could join for any number of reasons (learning, believe in the cause, politically frustrated, mentoring) and donate any number of things (time, domains, links, etc).

This is exactly the grassroots type movement they talk about that allows a 3rd party to emerge and slay the beast.

I must be typing to hear the clicks of my keyboard. Dave, fuck you and your goldfish.

This is not an Obama supporting/bashing thread, this is not a McCain supporting/bashing thread, this thread clearly states OUR CHOICES SUCK, LETS DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

So I take your advice and "vote him out next time" ... my only real choices are some democrat and Jeb Bush. You're obviously missing my point if you think I'll vote for either.

And for the record, there is a lot of good that can come from Obama's presidency. I'm actually happier to have him heading to office than McCain at this point because Obama can tackle some issues that Mc can't touch. However, none of the qualifications he has are what I consider to be prerequisites to the presidency.

It looks like the only good thing that came out of the Baby Bush presidency is that America elected it's first non "white guy " for president. Hopefully this means that we can put the whole racism and sexism shit behind us and go for competence for a change.

Man, you guys really don't get it. Yes, these last couple of years Bush has been a lame duck but that is due to a Democratic Congress.

His first four were a stunning success. He not only kept our economy afloat after 9/11 but he also detoured any other attacks by those wishing harm upon us.

Untill this last year the economy has been putting out numbers that we have never seen before. He also won the war in Iraq and liberated a nation from a murderous tyrannt.

You can also credit him placing the most minorities in top government positions than ANY other president in history. This paved the way for your beloved Obama to be president.

So, go ahead with your San Francisco Hate Bush Bumper Sticker fad but the facts speak for themselves and history will have a different opinion than the fags in San Francisco.

I think you need to talk to Daniel Kemp.

If I were interested in an earth emperor, I'd solicit Megatron. Was that a serious suggestion or a zombie joke?

Which third party are you wanting to throw this support behind?

Honestly I don't really care, there are parts I could associate with in many of the 3rd parties, particularly Libertarian. They have a bit of a head start over the other ones as it stands now.

That said, I'm in for the American way ... majority rules.

I do think it would be wise to filter to two parties (one liberal & one conservative) but am open to suggestions. However, I'm pretty sure the liberals are very happy with the guy they have in office and won't be helping out with this movement.

If you were interested in a real earth emperor you'd go with me... fuck that Napoleon Dynamite looking fag

What the fuck is his site even about?
Those videos... jesus

Back on topic..
Meh meh blah politics, meh third party, popeye blah blah rabble rabble rabble

Erect,

I think you have a great idea going here and I wish there was some more support for it. It definitely is a huge goal but I think if we did it effectively we would ad least get the word out more then it has in the past. I like the idea of starting immediately and working it for the next 4 years. Who knows, maybe we could get a 3rd party elected. Although that would be a huge undertaking with the state of politics today. I just don't see one of the two main party candidates not winning an election. But, if we were effective enough maybe we could get a candidate elected for the republican nomination in 4 years. I think that would be the best chance at them getting elected to office. If that isn't possible at least getting enough people together who are sick of the way things have been going lately we could build for the election in 2016.

I am all for helping in anyway I can. I think if we have a domain for each state touting the same "get away from the heard" mentality we could dominate the serps for a lot of keywords. They way the internet is growing will only help us. A true grassroots movement on the internet has the potential to,at the very least, make more people aware that there are better people out there for the job. That would be a win in my book. Honestly, I don't see that happening with the next election unless Obama really fucks up - which is highly possible.

I am just rambling here, but I am down to help out. Imagine if Ron Paul started this 4 years ago and built a bigger internet presence. He did alright with it but it obviously wasn't enough. When he dropped out it was a huge blow and many people ended up voting for the two major candidates. I was only 1 of 53 people to vote for Baldwin in my county out of about 20,000 voters. The other 3rd parties didn't fare to well either here.

I agree we need to find the right person who is popular enough to not be a joke. I live in Minnesota and fucking Al Franken is in a dead heat with the republican incubmant right now. They have to do a major recount it is so close. If a crazy idiot like that can do it I think there is potential there. It is also interesting to note the 3rd party candidate got about 15 percent of the votes. If we could get that for a presidential candidate then I would take that as a huge victory.

The Associated Press: Coleman leads Al Franken in Minn. Senate race

Let me know what you have in mind and I will do anything I can to help.
