I live down in Aliso Viejo, about 7 miles southwest of the Santiago Canyon fire. Woke up this morning to smoke all around the area. . . I've been at the office in north county all day (about 30 miles away), and the smell of smoke is pretty potent even out here.

How's all the other socal'ers doing?

My wife's family lives on Rice Canyon road, in Fallbrook. The fire was only 1/2 mile away when they had mandatory evacuations earlier today. We haven't heard from them in about 8 hours. They haven't called us and we keep getting voice mail every time we try to call. We hope it is ok.

Yea my ex gf lives in scripps ranch, we've been back and forth all day, but I guess she got evac'd as well... The santiago canyon fire keeps humming south... not good for me! I can't imagine a fire though that could cross mission viejo to come take a shot at me. At that point, I leave socal, ha ha :)

Sucks, we got the call for Voluntary evacuation in North County SD... not going anywhere though. At least at this point. Smokey but no flames licking my building yet...

i went to get some food last night at about 2am and herd about the san marcos fire which is/was about 3 miles from me. i went at watched it for a while, while i was eating carl's jr. power went out for about 1/2 hour this afternoon, got kind of scary once the smoke from the san marcos fire started moving in, but then i herd it was 100% contained... so i'm feeling a bit better. kind of trippy that 1/2 of the county is on fire... but don't really feel like i'm an any immediate danger at the moment.

Makes the midwest seem like not that bad of a place to live...

My brother is a firefighter up here (Nor Cal - Sonoma County) and he got sent to Riverside yesterday as part of a strike team from Sonoma County consisting of 40 firefighters and 10 trucks.

From the little I was able to talk to him, he expects to be down there 14 days minimum, and thats if they decide they get it under control enough to rotate crews out rather then just add on.

Kaveman, check this out:
California wildfires affect Mexican cities

might help in some way...

I'm glad shit like this doesn't happen in Michigan. We just have to worry about people from Detroit and illegal polar bears from Canada crossing the border to steal our jobs.

My roomate is originally from So Cal, he talked to his family last night.. His dad is stuck in the city he lives in (Dont remember the name), but he cant get out due to freeway closures.

From the sounds of it, its getting pretty rough down there and the Santa Ana winds arent helping shit...

Just got evacuated here in eastlake. We are currently in Lakeside. Fire is heading this way as well./ Hopefully this shit dies down..

Never really thought about it, as I am in Texas, and the illegals ain't polar bears, but I can see similarities! :)

Good luck to all in the danger area! I can't imagine (don't want to) what you must be going through!

I'm not too far from the Malibu fire, and have to say the freeways are a bit more jammed than normal (whatever that means lol!) due to closures near the other fires.

Sky is kind of an orange/brown color all day, smells like chimneys, and when the wind is blowing in the afternoons, ash is in the air almost like snow. And it doesn't help when it is in the 90's during the day here and almost 70-ish during the night.

Every year we have a little blaze here and there when the Santa Ana winds kick in, but this is awfully large...reminds me of 2003 when it was literally raining ash for about a week.

Hope everyone in SD, Valencia (Magic Mtn might get hit), and everywhere else is okay.
