Is it worth it? I am thinking of the surgery that requires no cutting with a blade and is all laser.

I've thought about it too. I'm hesitant because it's just a "hack" and doesn't even fix the underlying problem. For myopes (short sighted), the eyeball is elongated whereas for hyperopes the eyeball isn't as long so the focal point isn't hitting the retina.

Lasik alters the cornea, which is kind of like a permanent contact lens effect. What worries me is the fact that my astigmatism has continued to jump over the years, which is basically your cornea changing shape. Imagine getting lasik and having your cornea start changing shape again.

Brb getting "corrective" lasik repeatedly down the road
brb more lasers in eye.
brb end of the world brah

Got it, it's good, but yeah every 6-12 years you have to do it again.

Then again mine was just a minor correction, I didn't previously wear contacts/glasses.

A couple of my uncles have gotten it, and love it. My mom's had cataracts removed via laser as well, and swears by it.

Listen, this was the best damn investment I ever made. I got it done in 2007 and the rest is history. I got the laser to cut the flap. I didn't want the blade. I think I paid like 2200 for both eyes at the time and that's including insurance.

If my vision regresses to a certain point I can go in and get zapped again for free. The only catch is I have see an eye doctor every year or year and a half to get checked.

But the benefits outweigh anything. I was near sided and couldn't see anything in front of me. I was blind as a bat. Now I don't bend glasses frames in bed (laying down watching tv), worry about eating hot sauce and taking contacts out, swimming and having a contact float out of my eye or getting dry eyes from sleeping in my contacts too much.

If you're younger it will benefit you a lot more. I'm going to be 30 but probably have about 10 more years until I need some readers.

Glasses are swag now, if you want to look like a hipster douchebag!

I'm all set with glasses. If they break, or I need a new prescription, it's like 3-400 bucks. For a nice pair. With Lasik, if you have to go in every six years or so like previous poster mentioned, you're paying a shit ton of money to do it. Unless your eyes need this one time correction, but only your doctor will know that.

But if you get thick rimmed glasses, you'll pull major tail and come off as a complete douche, so that's a bonus you can't get with Lasik.

I forgot to mention. If you do go to have it done I recommend taking a sleeping pill shortly after. When you wake up you'll feel great.

there was a long thread on this a few months ago:
http://www.wickedfire.com/shooting-shit/150601-whos-gotten-lasik-done-before.html
i've considered it so read it all and most people are very happy with it. i don't remember anyone with serious side effects

Beat me to it. I started that thread a little over a year ago. All I have to say is one of the best decisions I made. I used to have -4.25 to -4.5 vision so I was basically useless without glasses. When I was hiking/camping/roughing it in the amazon in Peru this summer, I really came to appreciate how amazing it was. Not having to wear glasses that would've gotten super dirty, or put in contact lenses when there was no source of clean water to wash hands was simply amazing.
