My 3k post - a braindump.

Ok, I wasn’t too sure what to put here, so after about a fortnight of trying to come up with something, I just did a general braindump. On advice from mont7071, I’ll also be posting an AMAA. I’m not sure how interesting or useful I’ll be, so that may crash and burn. We’ll see.
Anyways, on with the list:

  • Don’t give out campaign details to your AMs, ever. It doesn’t end well.

  • Make awesome sites that people actually want to visit, a site with a high CTR but no time on site is bad, and doesn’t have long term potential. Content is king. What you think is a good design, isn’t necessarily.

  • Find something you’re interested in. I made this mistake by building my business around payday loans – I don’t think anyone is genuinely passionate about personal finance (maybe accountants, but I think that’s more about finding ways to avoid tax, which I can understand.) That said, if you’ve spent a lot of time on something you’re not that passionate about, but is making money, stick with it. However, you can still do something you’re really passionate about on the side (if you’re truly passionate about it, you’ll find the motivation to give up those extra hours)

  • Read BlueHatSEO, it’s awesome, and still relevant.

  • Scrapebox still works, don’t believe people that tell you otherwise.

  • This will probably be ignored by most of you, like it was with me, but avoid using PayPal wherever you can. Google checkout, authorise.net… they all kick PayPal’s ass. It’s no fun seeing all your shit crumbling to its knees because PayPal’s decided to limit your account for no reason.

  • Split test between a couple of ugly designs and a couple of pretty ones, see which work better. A design I made in 20 minutes converts twice as well as good ones that hit all the main principles of conversion optimisation do. However, YMMV, so TEST!

  • Automate as much as possible, you’ll get more stuff done. VAs and programs. If you can’t code, get Ubot, it’s awesome, and the time it takes to automate most tasks will generally be much shorter than doing the task by hand, and you’ll be able to do it automatically in the future. Lots of people don’t do this, but don’t hire VAs until you’re spending all the time you possibly can on your business, it’s not worth it otherwise. Time spent doing nothing is worth nothing, not even the wage of a VA (unless you’re spending time with family, experiencing new things, etc etc)

  • Weed is fine, just keep it limited. I smoke about once a fortnight to relieve stress.

  • If you’re just starting out, work as hard as you possibly can. 18 hour days, every day. No weekends. You can keep that up for just over a year. See this: http://www.wickedfire.com/enlightened-members/154783-motivational-shit.html “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful” – However, obviously, at some point, you’re gonna burn yourself out (however, this won’t be for at least a year, if you’re doing something you’re genuinely passionate about, you can last much longer – this is why you need to be passionate about what you’re doing – even if there’s less money in it, then your extra hours and love of what you’re doing will make up for that). When that happens, you need to be doing long as fuck days, but slightly less than 18 hours – and you need to set schedules, and have a todo list for each day. If you’re not completing that list, you’ve failed for that day.

  • Stick up signs and pictures in front of your desk, to constantly remind you of your goals. Currently I have photos of some of my idols, as well as, in the centre of it all, “Labor Omnia Vincit”.

  • People these days don’t seem to be able to recognise a Google dance. People have been pointing out the patent on it like it’s something new. When my site drops after I build links, I’m happy, because it means it’s working, and I’m about to get an even bigger jump.

  • While content is important, what’s most important is regular, fresh content. I’ve had sites with 50-100 pages of content drop from pr4, to pr3, to pr2, simply because they’ve gotten abandoned and haven’t had new content posted (No, no links were lost, other than the odd blog comment).

  • Don’t buy link packages. Some providers aren’t gonna like me saying this, but you get far, far better value buying the links individually. Fiverr is a goldmine for certain types of links (for example, web 2.0s), although there are good providers of individual types of links here as well.

  • Constantly think of ideas? Write them down. I have 100+ text files, each one containing 1 or more business ideas in them. You look at some of them a few months later, and you’ll realise some are crap, and some are gold.

  • Get AfterTheDeadline for Wordpress, it doesn’t just check for spelling and grammar, it also checks for writing style/words that are too longwinded, etc etc. It’s free.

  • DMAA is awesome, it gives you loads of stimulation, without the negative effects of Adderall. Plus it’s cheap (£12 for 10g, dosage is 50mg). Buy some.

  • This is an awesome post on getting into places you shouldn’t be. It got me into £2k closing ceremony seats at the Olympics (sitting next to Samsung/Toshiba/Mcdonalds execs) and it’s gotten me backstage at a major music festival (and on the stage, for that matter) How to crash a party | Neville's Financial Blog Also, Social Engineering

Finally, a big thanks to the following (in no particular order):

  • AmateurSurgeon, for really helping me get better at sales, and random chats.
  • Aaron Kelly & Mont for legal tips.
  • Guerilla, for making some awesome posts, and spending an hour helping me out.
  • CCarter, again for making some awesome posts and having an awesome dashboard, where you put a shitload of time adding something pretty much just for me.
  • Bofu, for general help.
  • TheHobbster, for our occasional SEO chats.
  • JosephM, for his puppy pics.
  • Cardine, for being incredibly patient with my Paypal issues.
  • Eli, for helping me out.
  • The entire SGW group, for being an awesome place to waste some time.
  • Jon, & all the mods, for running this forum.
There’s very likely some people I forgot, and I’m sorry, although I’d like to thank you guys as well.

Also, since we’re not meant to post tits as threads in STS anymore, here’s a link to my 3k tits post:

Nice Post but I had to lol at this: "18 hour days, every day. No weekends. You can keep that up for just over a year."

I don't know why but lately WF has been bombed with noteworthy posts and this is one of them. Thanks for sharing :D

Would love to see before and after pictures.
No difference really. No weight gain, no particular paleness. I try and work outside when it's sunny (rarely in England)

Stop making excuses.

I think it starts a chain reaction. I was gonna do like my previous milestone posts, and just post tits, but CCarter & the like inspired me to post something (hopefully) useful. :D

No problem :)
