What Maddox Thinks of SEO

So he is angry that people link to stupid tricks in an attempt to get attention but which gives attention to the people who made stupid tricks. He understands that the people who made the stupid trick are looking for attention, and then to punish them he gives them attention in an effort to bring attention to himself?

He does miss the obvious (in my mind) point that sites like these actually "submit" their content themselves, but by having a user-submit feature they get to claim it was a user.

Anyone remember all the Ebaumsworld controversy way back? Ripping off images from other sites and then replacing the watermarks/logos with their own? They also claimed it was the users that did the submission and logo removal... right.

It's pretty much the point of his whole article...

Five shitty movies that everyone loves.

I guess this article goes into that 1-6 step group as well (except no.4 :D), even though it is a lot more interesting.

Maddox is a master of self-promotion, but his shit is pretty damn funny. His book is great, if you ever get a chance to read it.

He actually kind of addressed that in this article:
How is it possible that a guy with a small penis and a hairy back is more powerful than Pepsi on the Internet?
It confirms that quality content can go a long way.

it's a good idea to think and read before you write.

Hope more people follow this advice.

How about you actually try that yourself?

Maddox's point: They are accepting user-submitted content knowing full well that said users are most likely not the content creators/owners.

My point: It was never user-submitted content to begin with. Having user-submit capability allows them to claim a user submitted it, even if all of it were "submitted" by the site itself (ie. site staff / owner).

If this is too subtle a distinction for you, then don't try playing the reading-comprehension card.
