Going to Singapore soon, any advice on things to check out? The more off the tourist path the better.

I'll be staying at the Marina Bay Sands and it'll be a +1 gig so nothing you wouldn't write home about please. lol

There are so many things you can do here (in singapore). MBS is top notch hotel so enjoy the view and infinity pool. Gamble like a chinese :-)

A few things u should go visit:

1) Singapore Flyer
2) If you like animals, then Jurong bird park, Singapore Zoo + Night Safari
3) Eat at the local hawker center. I recommend a good chilly crab. Be prepared to cry when chilli hits your ass :P
4) Checkout some unknown tourist spots like, Singapore Discovery center.
5) Visit Singapore art museum (if you like art of course)
6) Hop on the city tour bus at Suntec city (Mall), just go around the city. If flying on Singapore airlines, then hop on bus is free.
7) Go clubbing at clarke quay, Pick up some chinese or malay girls
8) Find out ways to open a singapore bank account to save taxes in future :-)
9) I strongly suggest if you want to explore the city, take the public transport. Even when you can afford a taxi. MRT and bus services are just excellent here, Way above the world's standards.
10) Don't fuck around in the public places, jaywalking or throwing rubbish, Our city is cleaner than the white house.
11) Sentosa beach and universal studios (Avoid weekends)

There are so many things to do, there are just a few.

If possible, wave a hand at me. In the above picture, my condo is visible to the extreme right. I can the see whole marina bay from my apartment.

If you are free, we can of course catch up. PM me.

I'll be flying Singapore Airlines and I'll be with special company so clubbing may or may not be a good idea.

Thanks for the recommendations, the more food ones the better.

I'll let fill you in with the details about meeting up, it would be in the 3rd week of July. I'll be willing to meet you early in the morning before the lady friend wakes up.

I've read a couple of places they are saying not to US citizens now due to FATCA. Do you have any first hand knowledge about that? And if so, ways to work around it?

Sure. Lets get in touch in the last week of June so we can figure out the date/time.

Orchard towers is the prime hooker's market, so you better avoid:evil_laughter:

I have no idea about FATCA laws, will ask my RM when I meet her this week. A simple way to open a account here is to open a company. You need a singaporean to be a part of the company. He could be a manager or director but is a requirement. Then as a registered company, just go to HSBC and open a businessvantage account.

Yeah, but definately not one of malls you should visit. lol. There are far other better ones like Suntec, Vivo City, Somerset 303, iSetan, Takashimaya and many others.

Great, if you get some info please post it.

FATCA is the US IRS latest money grab - they have the arrogance to demand every bank in the world report on the balances of any accounts held by US citizens. Failure to do so means US will confiscate a portion of that bank's US transactions. Many banks are rolling over and agreeing. Other banks in some countries are closing accounts held by Americans - to costly to comply. I read Singapore banks are in the second group, refusing accounts for Americans.

it's been a while since I've been there but i used to eat tons of these

I also remember this shop had some great local pastries

Welcome to Bengawan Solo

other food i would recommend are kway teow, fish balls, laksa, chicken rice at Tian Tian & Rojak.

Hawker food centers. Street food with sanitary standards. Napkins are not included with your food. Buy them from the vendors that walk around. If it is busy, putting your packet of napkins (tissues) on the seat indicates that the seat is taken.

There is also some very authentic Indian food in (who would have guessed) little India.

I spend most of my time (usually 1/2 night stopovers) in SIN eating.

How is Singapore for setting up Business ventures and Culture of Singapore?

I'm REALLY looking forward to the food vendors.

What about good spots for couples? You don't fly a woman halfway around the world without making at least one memorable experience. A pop the question kind of experience...

Book a yacht?

I lived in Singapore for 2 years when I was younger. My dad's company merged with a singaporean company and he went to oversee the merger. While I was there, I went to the american highschool (SAS) and got to travel all over asia. In fact, I went to the same highschool as Turbolap lol.

I highly recommend hitting up the Hawker stalls (local food markets) and trying the local dishes. For a few bucks, you can get some amazing fresh food prepared right in front of you.

Singapore is a safe, beautiful, modern city with so much going on. You're not going to be able to take in everything in one trip but I know you're going to have an amazing time.

And, don't pass up on Tiger Beer - Singapore's local brew. ;)
