I'm fucking fuming and need to vent. So here is my lovely experience over at 1&1 Internet:

Years ago, I picked up a few domains through 1&1, they decided I ordered webhosting too(I didn't). I didn't really log into the account often, because I had no reason to. Eventually my address changed, and they decided to renew my webhosting account without a working credit card, then send me the bill. The bill went to an old address, as the account is inactive.
I was unaware of this until a collections agency contacted me. Pissed, I called 1&1. We reached an agreement(now mysteriously absent from their records) that they cancel everything, never bill me again, close my account, and I would pay for the webhosting I didn't want(again).

Fast forward a couple years, and I get another call from an agency. They billed me again. Without a credit card. And miraculously I didn't reply to the mail they sent to the wrong fucking address(which they knew was wrong) from my theoretically closed account.

By this point, I don't know much about the account. I got it about 4 years ago. Because I don't have access to the e-mail it was made with, they will not let me close the account. And because they will bill even with an expired and out of date credit card, the only way to stop them from billing me is to login to the account I can't log in to.

Better than that? All my services are still active. Fucking all of them.

According to them, they can bill me literally forever on the account I've already fucking cancelled once, for the product I didn't fucking want in the first place, even without a fucking valid credit card.

Steer clear of 1&1. Once they have your information, you may very well find yourself fucked. They're a rebill on fucking steroids.

Just dispute it with the collections agency. Make them prove the debt. They only way they can prove it is with a signed contract. Put in your dispute letter that you are disputing this debt and if it hits your credit you will sue them for damages.

That shit usually ends right there. Use your rights under the FCRA.

Yup. And if it has gone to collections, then the chance that whatever "proof" got passed over from 1&1 to the collections agency is extremely slim to none.

This is a PITA for sure but nothing to sweat. Tell them to eat a big, fat dick.

that's gotta be an annoying, frustrating situation. I've experienced something remarkably similar before with another company

Cheshire is right. Don't get all twisted to, start the process, report them and ignore them, let THEM sweat their own idiocy.

What makes me feel better is going on to a popular rating site and just writing a seething post about how shitty they are.

It directly hurts their business and saves some poor schmuck from joining them.

Not even a PITA really. Just grab a template dispute letter off the Internet (they're everywhere), fill in the blanks and mail it certified to the address on the letter you got from the collections agency.

At that point they only have 2 options. 1. Prove the debt. 2. Sue you for it. #2 will never happen because to win in court they need .... yep ... a SIGNED contract. To top it all off, if they break even 1 law under the FRCA during the time you're dealing with them you can sue for damages.

I've won about $2,000 from collections agencies over the last few years thanks to the FCRA.

Thanks for the help everyone! I'm going to work on the Debt Collection agency(certified mail and whatnot) when I get back. Have already disputed the credit report entry on Experian, submitted a complaint to the PA Attorney General, submitted a complaint to the BBB, and filed a RipOffReport.
Argh.

pretty much this

a good resource for guidance on how to do that shit is creditinfocenter.com

Just for good measure - you should SEO the shit out of a site to destroy their name. I mean, most of us know they suck and steer clear, but the noobs they prey on might be swayed. Hit them in their pockets.

In the days I didn't know what Internet is I registered few domains with them. I already cancelled 60% of them but I cannot manage to cancel more than 2 a year.

I simply decided I prefer to pay for unused crap domains to the rest of my days than try go through cancelation process again.
