I don't claim to know a lot, but these are a few things that I have followed and which I think isolates my sites that work and my sites that don't. I don't even compete in Financial Niche and all those crazy niches... I look at a keyword, and see if I can create a good site around it, ie, can I get a couple of good content writers who can write convincing articles on these? I do a simple wireframe.. Home Page --> 100 Pages --> 10 pages or more each from those 100 pages.. And stuff to link from the Last level of pages.. These stuff can be user generated crap, images etc... But you get the idea... All my 100 main money pages will have 10 sub pages which may have no search volume....
I also see how broad the niche is ( Broad Keyword Search not exact). Because the broader the niche, the more mini sites I can create to reinforce my main site. I don't worry about domain name availability. I just search for a brandable domain. Good if I can the keyword with a pronounceable prefix or suffix. Good if I can find on tdnam.
So, Here a few nuggets:
Post Panda, a lot of stress is given on the on-page factors.
Read the above link on Page Optimization.
###### On Page #######
# Treat every page as if it was a stand alone site.
Length of content doesn't necessarily make it Quality.
Google wants to every information about that keyword on that page.
Mimic Reference pages..
# A page should have a H1, H2 and a H3 at the minimum. Make sure than single posts and pages, the post title is the H1 and not the Website title. Important.
# By default, H2 and H3 are on the sidebar. Remove those on individual pages.
# Have a H2 and H3 specific to that page.
# Create a new twitter feed for that page if necessary.
# Have a footnote.
# Use a reference section. Link out to important resources. Linking out to authority sites doesn't just mean linking to a Wikipedia and irs.gov
#Edit that image you are using. Rotate it. Crop it. Put a watermark.
# Have a table of content and hyperlink to different sub-sections of the page.
# Link out to all relevant pages. But also link to the top 5 closely related page at the start of the topic. You get site links if you are lucky.
# If you get a lot of comments, paginate it.
Don't worry about comments diluting the page. You can seed a keyword by replying to some of the comments. Just keep a fix number of comment on main page, and then paginate the rest. it will add a new page everytime you have 20 or so new comments.
# Use tables if applicable.
The idea is to increase your non-text elements on the page.
#Keep Sidebar thin. You homepage Sidebar can be rich, but the sidebar for single post should be minimal.
#### Off page ####
# You are already paying for different types of links, but you are too lazy to solicit links from other bloggers. Solicit links, but don't be cheap. Don't request for a link. Offer a payment upfront. Offer the amount you are willing to spend on that Link. Don't lowball. Don't insult someone. It is so easy that you won't have enough money to buy all the links. if you request for links, you may get 1 reply in 20. If you offer money upfront, you will get a reply 9 out of 10 times, if played well. Some will say no, but will reply.
# Own network of sites.
DON'T be BORING.
# Don't just create text sites.. eg: For a health site, why don't you create a image site of Healthy 80 year old people? Video sites.. Pligg sites... ecommerce sites?? The ideas are endless. Problem if a lot of you will just slap up a wordpress site and start publishing random articles about health to call it a health niche site. Be creative... Inorganic Link building is about imitating different types of sites... And drop domains to give you a lot of ideas... I got all my ideas from trying to find the best way to recreate dropped domains..
# Make your Web 2.0s unique. Create Web 2.0s that have multiple pages. Even if you are creating Squidoo, create 5 Squidoo pages and interlink them..
# If you want to go the multi Site route, try to find a niche with hundreds of long tails.. Because Interlinking still works... Even if they are on the same IP. Just make sure you are not doing it sneakily. Just don't overdo it.
And make sure that all sites look decent... Search for How to tie a tie..
Small niche, but you can still create an authority site.
Always remember that Google is not your enemy. Learn to love Google. And accept that they will keep evolving. Don't rush to something just because it is working today. Always ask yourself... Will this work next year? Unless you are planning on flipping the site sooner than google can update.
With every update, google is still going to rank 10 pages on page one of SERP.
Now some boob... Scroll down and it will get better.. I will be posting some more Boobs..
