The hot movie out this month for the ABC Family Channel ("Disney #2") is yet another spin on the Cinderella Story, this time featuring this hottie:

That's Lucy Hale, a 22-year old megahottie from Memphis that is apparently God's gift to all Atheists. ;)

Check out these lyrics to the song that the movie is centered around:
There's a little secret
I would like to tell you
There's a book of lies
I know they'll try to sell you
And they'll try, and they'll try
To convince you to buy you need 'em
So the next time you're down
Look inside not around.

I can bless myself
There's no need for someone's help
There's no one to blame
There's no one to save you but yourself
I can justify all the mistakes in my life
It's taught me to be, it's givin' me me
And I'll survive
'Cause I have blessed myself.

I mean wow. It doesn't get much more Anti-Christian than that!

It's really odd though, this movie is doing well and yet I can't find a word of it on the net complaining about the anti-Christian lyrics...

Here's the video for good measure:

Anyway, it's clear that both this actress and ABC/Disney have both allowed these lyrics to be played in the mainstream to be scrutinized. Here's my question to you guys:

Did this happen because:

A. America is somehow starting to lean AWAY from christianity so this is now cool?

B. America is getting so completely stupid that ABC knew that they could get away with this and none of their audience would be smart enough to figure out what they lyrics meant?

...I think you know my answer. Still, with a title like "Bless Myself," it seems a little too obvious.

Guys,

I truly don't think you're seeing the significance of this... We're talking about the ABC family channel, not some random website or movie here...

MILLIONS of tweeners, for the very first time in the entire history of this Continent, are now singing lyrics that will put them at odds with the bible!

And ABC family/Disney did this!

This is the equivalent of CNN reporting on how stupid american politics are and saying that you should never vote for anyone on teams red or blue!

This is a very major change or fuckup on ABC's part and will result in a huge wave of atheism in the US in the coming years... This song is very, very popular and obviously snuck into tweeners' heads underneath their parents' radar.

You don't think such a event in American history is worthy of a thread here?

@ly2: Are you accusing me or ABC or her of being the annoying hardliner?

I sure hope you're trolling. Why is playing an atheist song versus a christian song a "major fuck up"?

EDIT: I think I'm too sleepy to tell which side you're actually on...I'm going to make some coffee, but will leave my original comment here. Lo siento

Well perhaps because our entire establishment here, including all of our elected officials, our pledge of allegence, our laws, our education, and our money are all evidence of a system that is in worship of a christian god?

Such an anti-christian message has just never been broadcasted by our establishment before. (Successfully) Christians here are usually in such strong opposition to this kind of thing that churches across the nation rally against any such kind of exposure to their children...

Disney has been very careful over the years to not allow anti-christian symbolism to enter any of their movies or programming.

You know I'm a big atheist, but really this thread is about how strange it is that such a thing could exist... I'm not jumping up and down shouting "Yay we win!" or anything like that, mainly because it's too subtle.

But c'mon, am I really the only one here who can read those song lyrics and think "Wow something's different here?"

Guys,
@ly2: Are you accusing me or ABC or her of being the annoying hardliner?

I don't know, are you a pushy atheist?

Although my comment wasn't directed at you or her originally, now that you have brought it to my attention I get the feeling you are indeed a pushy atheist...and you already know my stance on pushy atheists.

I don't know, are you a pushy atheist?
Am _I_ trying to convert anyone here?

Sheesh... If anything Christians on this board should be thanking me for warning them not to let their kids see this Atheism-pushing movie!

WTF?? I feel like no one on this thread has read those lyrics in the OP yet?!

I dunno, doesn't matter to me much. Also, I am technically an atheist myself. I just never call myself that because I utterly despise atheists. They are like the Apple users of religion, smug fuck face faggots.
Then teach me o wise one; if you saw CNN come out and say something so opposite of their usual red & blue games, how would you address it on a thread on this board without offending people like yourself?

I think your oversensitivity to perceived preachiness has kept you from hearing the message when in fact no preachiness ever existed.

Here's one way:

Don't blow out of proportion shitty little songs on a made for TV movies that will be forgotten next week into...

...forgive me here...

...the second coming of Jesus Facepalming Christ.
