I hear muslim girls hate it because they gain weight from all the gorging at night. Also what happens if you're a muslim who lives at a part of the world where the sun doesn't go down for long periods of time and Ramadan just happens to fall during that month?

you dont gorge all night..restraint and what not....and cant "fail". In the UK its from about 315 to 2130...really long but not a "failure" and for places like antarctic where sun may not go down. Certain rules apply where they follow the timings of a local jurisdiction.

That is a serious question my man...

You tough it out.

I don't think people really understand Ramadan. You don't eat, drink, smoke, lie or have sex during sun up. For a month. If the days are long, you have to have your first and last prayers as well, fitting mealtime into sundown time.

It is pretty intense. Hakeem Olajuwon used to play basketball during Ramadan, obviously at a high level.

My own experience with fasting helps me understand how hard it is, but that is the point. To experience what it is like to be without food and water and to be highly perceptive of your physical desires.

Well what if you're on the North Pole during summer..

Then you're pretty much fucked..

Never found it hard to fast for half a day or so, fasting actually raises growth hormone in your body and isnt a bad idea to do now and again.

I also hate Islam. kthnx

There are two differing options for those who live in countries with high amounts of sunlight (or low amounts) for Ramadan.

The first is to use the closest nonpolar regions sunset/sunrise times. The second option is just to use Saudi times (or whatever your country of orgin is).

This comes up quite a lot - but it doesn't really seem to be much of an issue as there is a relatively small population of muslims located here.

I just know a question is coming about 'What happens if they are in space? How will they face Mecca!?' - Muslim scholars released a book titled "Guidelines for Performing Islamic Rites (Ibadah) at the International Space Station"

The Ramadan Pole Paradox - WikiIslam

I think it's a really good idea to fast/go without for some period of time, it really makes it easier to appreciate what you have in life and it has also made me a much more giving person.

(Not a Muslim, but I've fasted a number of different times for different reasons - none of them being weight loss).

Ramadan is a holy activity of the Muslims and they are doing more praying than eating. It is said to be the time when Koran was given by Angel Gabriel to Muhammad.

I guess we should not destroy the image of this activity even if you are not a Muslim. Respect is needed for this one.

I just hope that act of terrorism be stopped during Ramadan.
