How could the US economy recover?

Maybe I'm too young to understand, but when I think about it and hear the news.. I mean seriously, how could it recover?

Does anyone have theories or predictions about how this could happen? The way I'm looking at it, we are printing more money which is no good, jobs are being outsourced or replaced by computers/robots, rising tensions in other countries are imminent... I mean how could it possibly turn around?

The only way I could see this happening is if some completely new business just happened to be the next big global thing and required tons of new factories and workers all within the US. Lol which I would say is highly unlikely

When you think stats=truth and news=reality, you either must be a fool or under the age of twenty-five

Stop watching the news so much.

People will start living with less, people will eventually find jobs, and foreclosures will return to private ownership.... it just isn't going to happen in 6 months, think more like 6 years.

Serious question: How has the economic down-turn affected you personally?

It really hasnt, I guess the biggest gap in my reasoning is where are the jobs going to come from

They'll come when the government is actually forced to make serious cuts resulting in a reduction and tighter restrictions on entitlement programs. Then the lazy pieces of shit that sit at home all day doing nothing even though they are capable of working will have to go out and get a job.

At OP:

Read.

Then, read more.

Then, read a little more.

Then, take a break.

In a year, you'll be amazed at your insight.

Step 1: Nationalize the Fed
Step 2: Withdraw funding from imperial overseas adventures
Step 3: Pass a 1% Tobin Tax
Step 4: Ban derivatives
Step 5: Reissue the Frazier-Lemke Act
Step 6: Create Tennessee Valley Authority style projects in every state
Step 7: Recreate a Public Works Administration and a Civil Works Administration
Step 8: Force the Fed to issue a few trillion in zero percent credit to industrial production and job creation, 100 next-generation reactors, 5k miles of maglev rail, lunar mining, etc.
Step 9: Tell the UN, the IMF, and the World Bank to go fuck themselves
Step 10: PROFIT

You do realize that there are millions of jobs available right now? Hell, my newspaper is fucking packed with jobs available for people. However, why should people work when they can get almost two years of unemployement compensation for doing absolutely fucking nothing?

Also, the expectations each year of college graduates is increasing every year. Instead of taking an entry level job to get experience and further their career, they think since they have a fancy degree they should make $100k a year to start. Trust me, I've told multiple friends of mine to shut the fuck up when they were bitching about jobs because they only were making $18/hr to start. Granted 37k isn't much, especially for a bunch of us here, but to a 9-5 slave, that's decent money to start out.

Oh so close... You just left out China... ;)

OP; the problems we have here are likely going to lead to an even smaller dollar, it's true. But it's not the end of the world, nor even the American way of life.

That's China's job. Read up on them. Or better yet, just learn Mandarin now.

Don't be dissing my hero!

(Got the joke)

but seriously, back to the thread. Where do jobs come from.

Best readable book on economics:
Eat the Rich by PJ O'Rourke

You just need to read that book and you will understand that a lot of the conventional wisdom you read today (The US is doomed! China is the new #1) is just a bunch of crap.

Any book that could lead you to believe that China isn't currently kicking the pants right off the USA isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Did it make you believe in Faeries, too?

Nobody used to have a job that had to do with the internet, cell phones, mp3 players, dvds, video games, the snuggie, or viagra. It will be normal someday to have your own robot and whatever else.

I see where you are coming from, but it's not like they would instantly have jobs created for them and they would have to fill out applications along with the people that already are.

Hell, my newspaper is fucking packed with jobs available for people.

How many of these job listings will receive zero applicants? There are people that abuse unemployment, but if a labor pool shortage is really that big of a problem then why aren't people clamoring for increased immigration to fill the gaps?

Just about every single fast food, cafe, restaurant, department store, grocery store and retail outlet in my area has a "Now Hiring" sign at their front entrance.

It's not that jobs aren't available. It's that lazy fucks are used to holding out their hand and getting everything for free. If I went from the money I make today to all of a sudden making $0 tomorrow and absolutely had to get a job to support my family, I'd rather work two jobs full-time (been there) than collect a check from the government - barring debilitating illness or injury.

There's no accountability in this country - hence why working Americans are expected to support the lazy, accommodate the fat and tolerate the stupid.

I agree about the unemployment pay. If someone really needed a job they could find one. It might not pay the best but u gotta do what u gotta do.

After researching more and more, the underlying problem seems to be the fed. Do u think its possible that we could go back to a gold standard? I think thats what we should do, but can we? Political bs aside...
