Uptime here. Dedi, and all shared including HG still live and strong.

Spend the money tight ass... get a decent server... I fell victim to tightassitis a short time ago and it cost me big time... spend the money and get something decent.
No problems here...I've used them for at least five years and the only problems I've ever had are their restrictions on certain things at times (such as catch-all email addresses and open outbound ports). And they've always fixed those issues when I talk to them.
But as far as reliability, their services have always been stellar. This is just in my experience...but maybe you should call their support and see if the problem wasn't somewhere else in between your connection and their servers.

i do have a dedicated, this is just an account that i have a bunch of stuff running on. separate from my dedicated, that's used for other sites
This coming from the guy who has his HG sites down, but everyone else on HG is fine. Lol.
Hostgator has around 2,000 shared servers. They average 10-20 servers being down at any moment of the day. Your server being down doesn't mean anyone else is going to have problems (and statistically they won't be).
I have 5 shared accounts with HG and never had a single minute of downtime in over 7 years... you're unlucky broski.
Someone sharing your server probably ran a crazy ass autoblog and busted the whole server. Happened to me once (but I was that someone lol)
