So I just saw the colbert report tonight and he was talking about airport security and how its gotten worse in recent, and will be especially be bad for holiday travel. More use the dumbass scanners, and what seems like a really invasive pat down.

I haven't flown in 2yrs and it pissed me off then. I have serious issues with authority and what I believe to be abuses of it. I had totally forgotten about this BS when I decided to buy tickets for a pre-christmas vacation.

So has anyone flown recently and can shed light on if we live in Gattica yet? We talking ball cupping or still just metal detector sticks? Because there is no way I am getting into the full body scanner.

Let me tell you something. If you are brown or have a weird name you will get full body scan. I get scanned each time and I don't care they can envy my big dick if they want

About 5 months ago I flew out of a small local airport...

Of the massive herd of people trying to get through the one metal detector they had, I got chosen and pulled to the side stalling everyone.... so the "potentially gay" trainee employee could physically search me with the FULL pat down...
and of course those casual questions "do you have any sore or sensitive areas"...

I couldn't stop myself from chuckling throughout the process

Weren't they already using this in Vegas? When flying out last time from ASW, they had a machine everyone went through that did a full body scan. Not sure why this is such a big deal.. It's for your safety anyways.

Considering the close calls, it's just a matter of time before a plane gets blown up and everyone will be screaming that not enough was being done, and then a few months will pass and everyone will be pissed off again at the inconvenience, and then someone will hijack a plane and everyone will be outraged that not enough was being done, and then a few months later everyone will be all pissed off again that they have to take their shoes off when they go through the checkpoint... into infinitum.

On my way through London Heathrow on my was to ASE I was seriously amazed at the sheer stupidity of people hitting the customs counter with bottles and all kinds of shit in their luggage that they weren't supposed to be carrying despite the half dozen signs explaining the rules and all the garbage bins they had to pass to get there. Each and every one had their bags torn apart and swabs taken and run through the explosives sniffers, and rightfully so.

So quit bitching and moaning, do what you're told, and quit holding up the line for the rest of us. Or go home and don't bother traveling if you don't like it. I believe you have every right to refuse the full body scan. You just won't be getting on the plane if you do so.

Here's what gets me. One of the main reasons they have these full body scanners is to look for PETN, the explosive used by the underwear bomber dude. I saw an interview on TV earlier today where a former TSA/Homeland Security bigwig admitted that the scanners that we put our carry-on luggage through cannot detect PETN.

So you're telling me you can't check the bags for it but it's IMPERATIVE that you get either a 3d image of my body or an "open hand" patdown/gropedown to include my junk to verify I'm not carrying it? Shenanigans.

It's just a matter of time till somebody goes to jail for nailing one of these TSA guys for groping them.

I just flew to Portland and they hassled me over my toothpaste. I had a lighter in there they missed :D

They pat the pilots down as well as the passengers according to these reports.

So tell me, if they don't trust the person flying the plane, what chance do us peons have? Pilots don't need PETN, they can just ram the plane into a mountain. Or roll it over into the ground on take off.

also saw that episode, it's just to create a false sense of security, those statistics that you are more likely to be hit by lightning then to die form a terrorist attack or plane crash have been known for a while now. but some people are so dumb they need that security. personally i don't mind the body scanner , but they should blur out the "special parts" for the security people to see, then i personally don't see the problem. but the groping and stuff that is just ridiculous, by doing that the terrorsts have won, giving up freedom which is a quote the guest on colbert report said.

There are better ways of doing this than groping 4 year olds and looking at people naked.

These scanners are big business so it's not too surprising that they are being forced on us by politicians (current and former, Dems and Reps) who are banking from them.
The REAL reason body scanners are popping up everywhere

we all know how to use fear as a sales technique...they do too!

I'm brown and look a mix of indian and latin so I actually have to plan extra time everytime i fly because I just know I'll be getting search and pull out the line and ask a bunch of cuestions, the worst part it doesn't even bother me anymore (as long as they are "sensitive") it's part of my hollyday rutine. Sad I know but not much I can do about it and like me, millions who just look the part.

Full body scans take like 20 seconds longer than the old metal detectors... I left a train ticket in my pocket and the scanner picked it up so i got a pat down.

With these now theres gonna be no more strapping drugs to legs and walking through

Body scanners are nothing. Walk in, stand for 10 secs. Walk forward to Officer... he gets authorization to let me go by (over CB radio). All done.

Rather be safe than sorry.

Little disappointed with the sheeple mentality going on in here, I thought WF was better than that.

How many "terrorists" have they caught from these procedures? Osama Bin Laden is laughing his fucking head off right now because he know he won (assuming he's alive).

Would these same "terrorists" not just take their bombs to a busy mall or stadium, where the security is more lax? This really is just an invitation for full body scanners and invasive pat downs to start being used everywhere, which I'm sure politicians would jump at if given the chance. And keep in mind being touched like this by ANYONE besides a partner or doctor is considered sexual assault.

My question is why is the TSA even necessary in this? Don't the airlines have enough incentive as it is to keep their planes safe? The TSA is bloated and inefficient, and gives very little reward compared to the cost to operate, not to mention the millions of hours of peoples time wasted. There has to be a better way.

This is what I am talking about. I was expecting a lot more tin hats in this thread.

U.S. airport scanners pose skin cancer risks, doctors warn

I guess since I was stupid enough to forget that I don't want to fly that I will just go though the pat down. Ill have to try not to be a dick so I am not arrested, for not blending in with the other sheep.

Just a side note here but how many people recall their family doctors and dentists only taking x-rays when 100% needed. My doctors have always been weary of subjecting you to unnecessary radiation. Where is the lead apron for my balls at the airport?

And how long will it be until these things are at all public facilities? There is nothing keeping a terrorist from walking into the Mall of the Americas and blowing them selves up in the one of the kid play zones. What about Disney? Last time I was there they were just checking purses for weapons. You could have a shotgun strapped to your leg and they would never know. Give it a few years for people to accept the constant scanning and for costs of the machines to come down and they will be everywhere.
