Now Schmidt needs to get an apprentice, name him Darth ___, and the new empire will be complete.

Forget the Death Star this is Chrome Pwnage. Google just loves letting people add widgets, gidget and wadgets to it applications. I foresee a month of 0days and a lot of lost Google accounts.

Wow... I can't believe they got Scott McCloud to draw it. That guy is a god to cartoonists & comic fans alike.

But yeah, if GC delivers like this comic says it will, then that's going to make for some pretty amazing browsing experiences.
I'm just wondering what it's going to do to blackhat techniques like cookie stuffing. Obviously outside sources & sites won't be able to run easily under this sort of setup. Then again, 3rd party plugins may become all the rage again and we'll have a whole new wave of websites that refuse to play until you use their plugin, ala Zango.

Thoughts?

Slightly off topic... It's really insane how fast domains get snatched up these days. Within 10 minutes of Google's announcement every domain I could think of was registered.

Bastards.

@subigo - I hit up wordpress, squidoo, blogspot etc straight away and all the subs where gone.

Then i hit the domains. GoogleChrome, ChromeBrowser, ChromeWebBrowser and nothing, all gone and I gave up.

Then, just now after reading this thread again, i thought fuck it, I'll take another look and i picked up

chromewebbrowsing.com
chromewebbrowsers.com

So, yeah there are still some decent domains available (at least I think there decent).

Odd move considering how much was invested in FF. Although this will let them create more powerful web apps (html + js right now is fundamentally horrible design for complex applications).

So is anyone actually using it yet?

I've got it installed on my desktop. It didn't cure my grandmother's cancer, so I went back to FF3.

For regular browsing, it's good. Anything that's got system heavy applets, like YouTube DID load faster, as promised.
But there's no noticeable difference on sites that are predominantly text, like this forum.
It doesn't have support for any of the cool addons that FF has. I know, being open source, that'll change really quickly... But until that stuff's implemented, it's kinda useless to me (and most of the rest of us here I assume).
I also really don't like the terms in the EULA about how anything you type into the browser, they own access rights to.

It's a faster browser on media heavy sites, but like a few of the above posters mentioned, I just can't live without some of my addons for Firefox.

Until this changes, I'm not switching from Firefox to Chrome.

I like Chrome a lot. It is fast and simple. But also at the same time cannot live without the addons that FF3 provides.

I just went through my addons. They are handy, but I couldn't see them requiring me to use FF exclusively, all the time.

I haven't downloaded Chrome yet. I think Google already spies on me enough between Satellite photography and web beacons.

Why would I giveup FF for this? I don't see enough reasons...

Besides, big G usually have something going on behind the scenes. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there!

Y'know, two thoughts struck me last night as my lady was using Chrome for the first time and loving it.

Thought 1:
Chrome is not designed for people like us.
For people that know what they're doing, and require extra functionality, it's not all that great. It might be with time, some extra development, etc... but at the moment, it's a no go
What it is is the iPhone of web browsers.
It looks great, it functions well for the average user, and offers more than people are used to seeing or being able to do in IE or a basic install of FF.
For her, it's the perfect browser.
We can snort at it all we like, compare it to far superior technology that's already been available for a while *starts kissing my TyTn2... with some tongue for good measure*, or we can realize that we're not actually the target market for this particular product.

Thought 2:
If Chrome really is reporting back what users are doing with it, then any one that's even mildly into blackhat stuff is shooting themselves in the foot using it, because it will be linking together all of your usage of Google services directly.
