We are getting ready to launch our self serve advertising soon. What do you guys really want to see?

The vast majority of our traffic is from logged in users so we have access to all their info.

We are going to allow you to do Cityname Substitution in ads. Sort of like googles keyword Substitution. Ie {Cityname:USA} Dating. If we have the long/lat on the user we will subsitute their city else use USA. Our ads will be close to the style of facebook.

Some of the Targetting options are listed below. You can either include or exclude.

Current Pageview in a users session
Frequency capping.
Profession
Income
Age
Gender
Logincount (Number of logins they have made)
Eduction
Targetting by Zipcode, ie pick a zipcode and select a radius.
If they own a car
Bodytype
Religion
Smoking
height
etc etc etc

How can i make things easy ? Do you guys want me to create some kind of option where you can test creatives and if you don't reach X CTR after Y impressions the creative is auto disabled?

sort of off topic but I'd just like to say that you frickin ROCK for running that site. I've only used the site for a couple months but some of the women I've hooked up with from there have been... outstanding. Even floated you a few bucks for VIP as a thank you :). Only thing I would ask is that you make an option on the site to exclude the site from ever showing you people based on criteria other than age. like "don't ever show me fat chicks". Cracks me up when the little matcher thing sends me a 400lb hippo.

Ok back on track. What sort of pricing model are you looking at on your ads on the site?

allow religion to be used as a parameter as well, and allow these to be appended into the ad destination URL.

congrats on the Inc cover earlier in the year

Thanks guys.

1. Its a funny thing, by including people that aren't 70%+ your match makes you want to date the ones that are. Dating is 50% expectation management and 50% matching.

2. I would love to include parms, but then the government comes knocking. What I can do is include some kind of ID and after 30 or so conversions give you some kind of report on what actually converted?

3. Pricing model is hybrid. CPM is BS and so is CPC. I've got something cooler but it will look like CPM to you, except performance should be consistant. As a massive media buyer myself the only thing I care about is consistant performance and i figure everyone here thinks the same.

Another thing i'm going to do is allow you to ask questions in a poll format that will run in a standard 728 banner ad or 300 ad and allow you to ask 2 or 3 questions. Ie Have you ever bought a diet offer? Would you buy one again? After 500+ responses give you a breakdown on the 150 variables we have on every user. Ie Divorced users are 2x as likely to convert etc etc... I'm going to launch it probably a couple of weeks after the self serve platform.

allow 3rd party ad servingfor direct buyers....
To many affiliates try and mess with you... Even without a proper ad system(google admanger is the worst ad platform ever) right now affiliates are spending a extra 100k a month on my site every month.. Virtually impossible to police it all. That said if you spend enough money there are always options. Its easy to moniter 10 people spending 50k/month verse 500 spending $100/month

How about you just allow direct buyers to purchase traffic via their own ad server tags... this will solve all of your problems & make things easier on your end. There's no reason not to. If a buyer is not being compliant, pull the tags and end the advertising relationship.. risk mitigated.

Also - do you ever split test images? I see that "Hi im Markus from POF" plain text ad and wonder if it actually gets decent CTR... it makes me LOL every time. You could be geting twice the amount of conversions simply by including a hot girl in your creatives..

Yes!

The affiliate marketing world only cares about CTR and conversions, which means absolutely nothing. For every 1 person that clicks on those "Hi i'm markus from POF" there are 10 that type plentyoffish into a search engine. Its the same with the all text banner ad I put on wicked fire. We had few direct marketers before the ad and after the ad it was over $400k/month and looking at only clickthrus/conversions maybe 30k looked like it came from wickedfire.

Not sure I'm following you... How does CTR and conversion mean absolutely nothing?

WIN LOL

Just wanna pop in and give some /respect to Markus since seeing his site got me into the whole business of making money online; plus POF has also gotten me lots of dates and more :)

Just more bidders soaking up traffic, traffic is actually up every single month. And we have some buying at $2.00 CPM's to try and get the first few impressions. That and admanager totally sucks some campaigns get delivered as they are supposed to and others get starved of impressions.

CTR and conversions matter, but with 8% of users accounting for 80% of clicks according to comscore its hard to run a business by just looking at Click throughs etc. View through tracking now becomes super important.

So true. Affiliates are forced to care only about CTR and conversions because it's how they get paid, but it's way less than the whole story.
