looking for a phone to use for internet marketing/web stuff...

really looking for something that can do some ftp/ssh and has a REAL browser ( not some cheap WAP browser ) so I can log into Adwords and do some bidding too.

What are you guys using comparable to this now?

I use a Treo but the web browser is a bit shitty. Might want to try a Windows Mobile Phone for all that kind of functionality. I hear the iPhone SDK is decent as well and should yield some nice apps in the coming months.

I have heard good things about the Iphone from a few people and trying to decide myself as well right now. I really wanted to stay with Verizon as they have the best network I have every used and I never get a call dropped. They have the blackberry phones or the Voyager which is similar to the iphone as far as web browsing and the touch screen go so those are options as well.

I second eliquids question? What are you guys using???

I use the palm os Treo, and check stats while I'm out and about. I run a hosting company, so it's mostly used for email/ssh/support tickets when needed.

If you go with Windows Mobile you get Mobile IE, which is only slightly worse than normal IE.

I use the Nokia E61 which is excellent.
It's a business phone with full QWERTY keyboard (even ctrl/shift keys for copy and standard paste), full email support for many accounts (push/pop/impa), an excellent browser and more.

It runs on Symbian 3rd edition which will let you run stuff like Putty (ssh telnet), FTP apps and so much more.

It also has a BIG screen and watching video on it is smooth and crystal clear. :)

Check out Opera Mobile for web browser, IE mobile is useless. You should really just have a UMPC if you want to be able to run everything while portable. It might not fit in your back pocket but a good run will run everything your main PC can.

iPhone FTW. No doubt in my mind. It's a solid, durable, and technological masterpiece. AT&T used to be the best service I have ever used until they switched to cingular so I moved to verizon. I really dislike verizon so I am going to try moving back to AT&T now that they have changed back from cingular and see how it goes.

I tell you what.. I HATE the voyager. my company bought a few and it's been nothing but a pain in the ass. It's slow and all around shitty. It's more of a toy for a 17 yo girl than a phone for a professional. Blackberry/iphone/treo all are better.

Edit - In fact, i hate the voyager so much, I turned down a free one and still use a motorola SLVR without email or web over having to use that POS.

Seconded.
To make it truly perfect setup some pages on a webserver that just login to aff programs and pull your stats. Same for adwords if you're feeling zesty. Then bookmark em.
Typing is a bit of a pain in the ass sometimes, and I have a 13-16 character password...so yeah. That's kind of why I reccomend that.

I bought my son a Zphone recently:

I have to say, for a $150 Chinese Nokia wannabe it's pretty amazing. I've toyed around with it some and like it better than my HTC, which also runs on Windows Mobile.

Regarding FTP, there are tons of utilities for Windows Mobile phones ... check out Softpedia.

... ftp/ssh and has a REAL browser...

Really there's only one choice. You know. FTP it's in the iPhone, SSH built in (it's unix, so of course) and "real browser" it's real and it's not trough a proxy.

Can you surf a semi "real browser" on the other devices? Of course.

Opera on my sprint blackberry rocks, but of course it's through a proxy that means that my password, and sites are going through someone's server before they get to me.

Any "real browser" on the windows mobile does the same.

I'm a big fan of the windows mobile because you can program your own stuff and so there's TONS of programs out there.

There is SSH for the blackberry but I haven't seen it on any other OS's (none on the WM, but don't be surprised if someone programs it, but none that I could find)

As for the Treo and Nokias??? Don't make me laugh with the treo's that are using the now 15 year old Palm operating system, and as for the ones running WM6, well they're just windows mobile so read above about that.

...and Nokia's stuff still looks like it's running on their old 33mhz dragonball processor.

once you see sites on a iphone, there's no other choice. The speed on the device might be slower, but load a site on the iphone and do the same on a faster network's phone and you'll notice that since the iphone processes the site as fast as your computer does while the other devices take FOREVER to show you the site, then it pretty much looks the same.

And forget it if you happen to be anywhere near a Wifi spot.

If you are using IE on any phone, you will not get a full IE capability for ssl etc. For instance, if you try to view Azoogle stats on a Windows Mobile phone, it wont let you log on. It sucks I know. However, I think iPhone might be able to do that.

Stay away from this "technological masterpiece" known as the iPhone if you want MMS, Video Recording, Bluetooth that isn't crippled to headsets only, or even just a basic Cut & Paste function.

1) i agree with you on not having cut and paste
2) mms doesn't matter when you have a full browser + email. plus...mms is for fags (the only pics you will get is from other terrible camera phones)
3) bluetooth is for fags
4) video recording has already been made for the iphone and will be 10x better once SDK apps are out
5) SSH comes stock
6) Ridiculous games coming out: YouTube - Super Monkey Ball on the iPhone! (iPhone SDK) (you can't top that with any current phone game)

There really isn't much competition or choice if you ask me.

i have a sidekick 3 and it's awful. i mean, it's great for texting, and making me feel like a teenage girl, but the web browser is supremely shitty. from what i've heard the new sidekick isn't any better.

I use a MDA Vario II on T-mobile (UK).. it's basically a pda-phone with a slide-out keyboard which makes typing a lot faster and easier.. it's 3g, runs windows mobile, has touch screen/stylus, 2meg digital camera.. It also doubles as a roaming wireless broadband modem.. it's a bit of a brick when compared to the iphone, but having the slide out keyboard makes it worth it for work stuff..

it comes with IE mobile which is crap.. i run opera mobile on it, its the best mobile browser available and does most things perfectly, ie adwords admin.. except the ajax is still buggy, so it has problems with the YSM interface..

but i highly recommend getting a smart phone of some sort.. i can't imagine living without it now
